I was wondering this tonight, as I rolled up my sleeves so they did not get wet.
If I could use an automatic dishwasher, I would. If I had room for one, I would get one. I hear they use less water, and I'm Lazy.

How do your dishes get cleaned? I know a person that use to only use paper plates and plastic utensils. I doubt they do anymore.

You do not have to leave a comment if you do not want to. I'm more interested in the numbers.

You know, I did not need the "Yes" "Yes" "Yes" "No" wording. I could have just had the descriptions.
Okay, I don't think anyone will have ill effects from it, buy one never knows.

Had one when installed new kitchen.
Since we are only living here with two people, easier by hand and takes a lot less time.
There are small 'tabletop' versions for smaller families like us but never tried (worktop space very limited).

After it broke down, was used as a drying rack for over a year (not ideal - hard to clean without it actually running) but during summer space reclaimed for more storage.

it changes
my parents had a dishwasher when it was broken i handwashed hours & hours
and it was suddenly not equal boys and girls work, funny that
after that, handwash until prob, 1998? when making goatcheese
and that required a clean counter several times a day,
hand again these days
there's still a dishwasher (at hub) but that only gets used when there's visitors and much dirty dishes

anyway you still have to do dishes somewhat, pots and pans and surfaces and anything that doesn't fit,
pre-clean before dishwasher too

the house machines are all actually lousy compared to professional washers,
why do these bleeding things take two to three hours
both washer and dishwasher need filter cleaning regularly, as that is a common problem if things don't work

The two apartments I lived/live in do not have automatic dishwashers so all dishes have to be washed by hand & that's how I voted. However my parents have an automatic dishwasher they use for most dishes because some dishes cant be washed that way. My first job was being a dishwasher at IHOP & I did that for 10 months. IHOP had a machine that washed most all the dishes very quickly.

When I moved in with my girlfriend I washed most all our dishes. However these days I seldom wash dishes in our apartment. I've always been extremely slow washing dishes by hand due to some problems with fine motor-skills. At home I let things pile up till we're about out & I then try to wash aLOT at once. I have been having some various pain on & off for a few years that can flare up when I'm more physically active so my girlfriend feels pressured to wash dishes some. I have a referral for physical therapy I plan to try pursuing soon.

I wash mine by hand.
To prevent a massive pile up. I have four forks, four spoons, four soup spoons, four salad forks, and knives. Same with the dishes. Glasses are a bit out of control.

We have the "wash up as you go" scheme in our house

It's easy; you just wash up as you go

Well one of us does anyway

We installed a dishwasher and appreciated it's convenience for about 5 years.
When it broke I became dishwasher (because my cooking is crap).
I quite enjoy parts of the process if I can get some music playing, however I DO let them pile up until there's enough for a full drying rack... Annoying my partner greatly.

I find the claims of reduced water consumption exaggerated. I'd use about 2 litres rinse water with 4 litres in the sink for an average load. (Although consumption has increased lately since she took the dogs interstate. No doggy prewash.)

Pots and pans. I had forgotten about those. Yes. I know people that have dishwashers, and they pre-wash their cooking ware.

That is what I try to do, but sometimes I get one or two meals behind. Only once this summer did I run out of all dishes, and eating utensils. Maybe three times this year. Maybe four...

When OS lived with me, I got SPOILED because he did much of the cooking and washing. He is a very good cook. He introduced me to new things.

Even the apts I've stayed in each had a dishwasher. Our last one lasted about 18 years. New one uses less water, but it takes longer.

I'm so sick of washing dishes, I don't know what I'd give for a good automatic dishwasher.

But I don't think I have room for one in my apartment. I'm actually pretty lucky to have my own washer and dryer so I don't have to drag my clothes down to the laundromat without a car.

Even if I did have a dishwasher I'd only be able to wash plates, cups and silverware. The pot and pans would still need to be washed by hand. But it's still better than having to wash everything myself.

I have a dishwasher and I mostly hand wash my dishes. The fact that dishes need to be pre-rinsed before going into the dishwasher makes me more likely just to clean them in the sink anyway. The difference between pre rinsing and a full clean of a dish is probably a few seconds, the only way I can see a dishwasher being helpful is if the person has a sensory "ick" for dirty dish scrubbing. Regarding water usage I think it depends on how you wash your dishes, if you leave the tap running while you clean the dishes it does use a fair bit more water. But if you fill a sink with warm water and dish soap, and only use that water for cleaning the dishes. I doubt it would use any more water than the dishwasher.
