Hello,

I thought I would introduce myself. I’m Sam from the UK, age 43, male.

I was diagnosed with autism in late 2024 but I only started seeking support a few months ago.

In childhood, I showed signs of anxiety and depression but I managed to muddle through so no one looked into it much further. As a teenager, my mental health deteriorated significantly and I feel like I’ve been barely coping ever since.

I feel really exhausted now. I really feel as though life has passed me by. I will probably be made redundant from work next June and I’m scared about what the next steps in life will be.

I’m trying to stay hopeful but I’m feeling a lot of fear.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks exec. My situation isn't too bad really. My employers have given me six months to prepare for redundancy and I'm hopeful about the support I'll be getting with my autism starting in January.

I was having a bad night last night, as I have been staying with family over Christmas. My mum and stepdad are in a really bad situation. They are in their 70s and stuck with a struggling business that they can't sell and don't particularly like anymore. It's really sad to see them in this situation and I do feel guilty as I know that my mental health issues have caused them a lot of stress over the years and that has probably got in the way of them building up the business when they were younger.

I'm feeling a bit better today. I have tried to avoid them this morning as we are all at our most depressed and irritable in the mornings.
