NBC News Live Updates

Quote:
A 37-year-old woman was fatally shot by an ICE agent today after a group of people began blocking officers during an immigration-related operation in Minneapolis, the Department of Homeland Security said.

Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin alleged that the driver
"weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them."

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said it did not appear from video that the vehicle was being weaponized against the agent. He called for ICE to leave the city, saying the agency is “causing chaos and distrust.”

Video footage from NBC affiliate KARE 11 of Minneapolis showed a burgundy SUV with what appears to be a bullet hole in the windshield. It’s not clear to whom the SUV belongs or from where the bullet was shot.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz pushed back on Homeland Security's account of the shooting, saying he has "seen the video." "Don’t believe this propaganda machine," he added.

Protesters hurl snowballs at law enforcement
Some protesters are throwing snowballs at law enforcement officers as dozens of demonstrators march the streets of Minneapolis, aerial footage shows.

Minnesota's ACLU branch calls on ICE to leave state 'immediately'
he ACLU of Minnesota, one of the state's leading civil liberties organizations, said it was "devastated" by news of the shooting and called for "an immediate and transparent investigation."

"We are waiting to learn more," the group said in a statement on social media, "but this is what we know: ICE is endangering our communities and must leave Minnesota immediately."

Sen. Klobuchar concerned DHS statements don't line up with 'video evidence'
Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn, expressed concern that the statements made by Homeland Security officials do "not appear to reflect video evidence and on-the-ground accounts."

The fourth-term Minnesota senator expressed condolences for the family of the woman who was killed today before criticizing the role of ICE agents in the state. She called for full transparency and an investigation into the shooting.

"While our immigration enforcement should be focused on apprehending and prosecuting violent criminals to make our communities safer, these ICE actions are doing the opposite and making our state less safe," Klobuchar said.

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., called the actions of the federal agents "unconscionable and reprehensible" in her own statement this afternoon. She described the woman who was killed as a "legal observer" and characterized the events as "state violence."

“This administration has shown, yet again, that it does not care about the safety of Minnesotans," Omar said. "Instead of protecting our communities, they are unleashing violence — terrorizing neighborhoods and now killing a civilian."

Trump says officer was defending himself, is recovering in hospital
President Donald Trump defended the actions of the ICE officer involved in the fatal shooting.

The president said in a post on Truth Social that he viewed a clip of the incident, calling it "a horrible thing to watch."

"The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self defense," he wrote. "Based on the attached clip, it is hard to believe he is alive, but is now but is now recovering in the hospital."

Trump said that law enforcement officers and ICE agents are regularly threatened.

"They are just trying to do the job of MAKING AMERICA SAFE."

Minnesota governor hits at Trump administration for 'governing by reality TV'
innesota Gov. Tim Walz said that today's fatal shooting is the result of the federal government’s “dangerous, sensationalized operations."

"What we're seeing is the consequences of governance designed to generate fear, headlines and conflict," Walz said at a news conference this afternoon. "It's governing by reality TV, and today, that recklessness cost someone their life."

Minnesotans love their state, Walz said, as he urged residents not to turn against each other. The governor said that protesting is a "patriotic duty" but that it must be done peacefully.

"I feel your anger. I’m angry," Walz said. "They want a show; we can’t give it to them."

Walz says Minnesota has activated emergency operations center
Minnesota has activated its State Emergency Operations Center after the fatal shooting in Minneapolis, Gov. Walz told reporters.

He said statewide law enforcement officers were coordinating with city officials to ensure public safety.

ICE shooting took place blocks from George Floyd murder site
Today's shooting unfolded at 34th Street and Portland in Minneapolis, according to Mayor Jacob Frey. That's about 10 blocks, or a three-minute drive, from the site where George Floyd was murdered by a Minneapolis police officer on May 25, 2020.

ICE agents are trained to use lethal force only if faced with serious risk of injury or death
In their training, ICE agents are taught that they are allowed to use deadly force only when they face an imminent risk of death or serious physical injury.

More specifically, Homeland Security's policy states that agents may not fire at a moving vehicle unless they face a serious risk of injury or death. ICE agents are trained on this policy.

ICE officers trained never to approach a vehicle from the front, DHS official says
ICE officers are trained to never approach a vehicle from the front and instead to approach in a “tactical L” 90-degree angle to prevent injury or cross-fire, a senior Department of Homeland Security official told NBC News.

Officers are also instructed not to shoot at a moving vehicle and only to use force if there is an immediate risk of serious injury or death, the official said.

ICE officers are also instructed that firing at a vehicle will not make it stop moving in the direction of the officer.

Walz's warnings to Minnesotans echo that of Pritzker in Illinois
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz repeatedly implored residents to remain calm and not “take the bait” from the Trump administration in the wake of the fatal ICE shooting in Minneapolis.

His words during a news conference echoed those of Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, who last year warned his owned residents not to allow protests to turn violent. At the time, Pritzker argued Trump officials were looking for a pretext to militarize their cities.

Walz gave the same warning, noting that there could be far-reaching consequences.

"To Minnesotans, don’t take the bait. Do not take the bait. Do not allow them to deploy federal troops into here. Do not allow them to invoke the insurrection act. Do not allow them to declare martial law," Walz said. "Do not allow them to lie about the security and the decency of this state. And let’s let this investigation play out.”

FBI says it is investigating the shooting
The FBI said this afternoon that it is investigating today’s fatal shooting by ICE in Minneapolis.

“Consistent with our investigative protocol, the incident is under review, and we are working closely with our law enforcement partners,” the agency said in a statement.

Sen. Tina Smith of Minnesota wants ICE out
Sen. Tina Smith, D-Minn., today said she wants ICE out of the state.

“I think ICE should leave,” Smith said. “The longer that they are in Minnesota, the less safe people are. And I think we could see today the implication of that, this senseless killing of this woman who was in her car.”

Smith also got emotional when asked why she thought the Trump administration is fixated on Minnesota.

“I wish I knew,” Smith said. “I mean, I wish they would just leave us the f--- alone. I mean, seriously.”

“When did things stop being about politics and and start being about actual human decency?” she said.

“We can all hypothesize on what all of their political reasons are,” Smith said. “But meanwhile, a woman died being shot in her car — and everything that they are doing is making it worse and not better.”

I watched the video, she was not part of the protest, she was a resident trying to move her car and likely had no idea what was going on. Her car was blocked and one of the Ice stormtroopers appeared with a ski mask threatening her with a gun. She probably panicked and thought it was a carjacking and tried to escape when she was shot by Ice.

Her neighbour who is a medical doctor came rushing out to render her first aid and was prevented by Ice from treating her. It's likely the lack of first aid contributed to her death. the doctor audibly told the Ice thugs "you idiots have shot my neighbour!!"

Reports from Ice the victim was a protestor who tried to ram officers who acted in self-defence is a lie based on the video. the mayor is right, her family should sue.

Watch as the party of Small Government comes out by the millions to defend the Small Government killing people. Have you ever met a Small Government person who ever objected to the Small Government killing anyone? You know, except when they cite Obama or Clinton killing people, but that's more to claim "both sides", and not at all them suggesting they actually think there's anything wrong with that Small Government killing people, as long as they are the right people.

Turns out if you carry a gun for the Small Government, then you are a nigh-infallible servant of the public who should never face consequences or scrutiny, because of how important it is for us to be protected by the Small Government from all those people that scare the Small Government, Free-thinking Liberty-lovers.
Shame Trump supporters until the day they die. Never let them forget. Never let future generations forget. Never let the right act like they didn't support all of this. Shame conservatism out of public life.

Vance says death of Minnesota woman killed by ICE was 'a tragedy of her own making'

Quote:
Vice President JD Vance on Thursday claimed that the woman fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in Minneapolis a day earlier was “brainwashed,” suggesting without evidence that she was tied to a “broader, left-wing network.”

Vance, his voice at times rising in anger as he took questions in the White House briefing room, also lectured the media for its coverage of the incident while offering few details to back up his version of events.

“I’m not happy that this woman lost her life,” he said of Renee Nicole Good, 37, who was fatally shot during a confrontation with ICE agents Wednesday. President Donald Trump has said that Good was "resisting" orders and "viciously ran over the ICE Officer" during an immigration-related operation in the city. Officials and an eyewitness have disputed this account.

“I’m not happy that this woman was there at a protest violating the law by interfering with the law enforcement action,” Vance added. “I think that we can all recognize that the best way to turn down the temperature is to tell people to take their concerns about immigration policy to the ballot box. Stop assaulting and stop inciting violence against our law enforcement officers. That’s the best way to take down the temperature … We’re not going to give in to terrorism on this and that’s exactly what’s happened.”

Video of the incident has gone viral, with Trump, Vance and other high-ranking members of the administration saying the footage shows the shooting was justified. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, a Democrat, called the claims "bulls---," while Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz accused the administration of promoting "propaganda."

Vance’s appearance Thursday in the briefing room was a rare one for the vice president, underscoring the administration’s eagerness to make him a point man on Minnesota. He joined White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt to discuss the administration’s response to the shooting and to an ongoing fraud investigation involving the alleged misuse of welfare funds in the state. Vance was critical of Walz, his Democratic opponent for vice president in 2024, while also announcing the creation of a new position of associate attorney general to tackle fraud probes in Minnesota and other states.

But Vance was particularly exercised about the shooting, criticizing questions about whether it was warranted. The ICE officer who shot Good, he said, nearly died six months ago after being “dragged by a car” and requiring dozens of stitches in his leg.

“So you think maybe he’s a little bit sensitive about somebody ramming him with an automobile?” Vance said.

Vance also asserted that the media has failed to cover that Good was “part of a broader left-wing network to attack, to dox, to assault and to make it impossible for our ICE officers to do their job.”

“If the media wants to tell the truth,” he added, “they ought to tell the truth that a group of left-wing radicals have been working tirelessly, sometimes using domestic terror techniques to try to make it impossible for the president of the United States to do what the American people elected him to do, which is enforce our immigration laws.”

There has been no evidence released tying Good to left-wing groups. Asked if he was “pre-empting a thorough investigation by drawing such conclusions,” Vance argued that certain details were indisputable.

“You have a woman who was trying to obstruct a legitimate law enforcement operation. Nobody debates that,” he said. “You have a woman who aimed her car at a law enforcement officer and pressed on the accelerator. Nobody debates that. I can believe that her death is a tragedy while also recognizing that it’s a tragedy of her own making and a tragedy of the far left who has marshaled an entire movement — a lunatic fringe — against our law enforcement officers.”

Vance added, later in the briefing: “The reason this woman is dead is because she tried to ram somebody with her car, and that guy acted in self-defense. That is why she lost her life, and that is a tragedy.”

Even so, the vice president at times shifted between condemning Good and acknowledging that he did not know her precise motivations.

“You’ve got to be a little brainwashed to get to that point to where you’re willing, not just to protest, that’s fine — not peacefully protest, but throw your vehicle in front of legitimate law enforcement officers and drive your car into them. To get to that point, you have to be, I think, radicalized in a very, very sad way,” Vance said at one point, without offering proof of Good being “radicalized.”

But when pressed on whether, after seeing the video, he had no doubt Good acted deliberately to harm the officer, Vance conceded the point — to a point.

“Look, I don’t know what is in a person’s heart or in a person’s head, and obviously we’re not going to get the chance to ask this woman what was going on,” he said. “What I am certain of is that she violated the law. What I’m certain of is that that officer had every reason to think that he was under very serious threat for injury or, in fact, his life. What I’m certain of is that she accelerated in a way where she ran into the guy.”

Vance closed the briefing with a parting shot at reporters.

“I think it’s really irresponsible for you guys to go out there and imply or tell the American people that a guy who defended himself from being rammed by an automobile is guilty of murder,” he said. “Be a little bit more careful. We’re going to talk about toning down the temperature, which I know the president wants to do, and I certainly want to do. One of the ways we tone down the temperature is to have a media that tells the truth. I encourage you all to do that.”

It was a tremendous error on my part, and I am heartily sorry for having ever thought otherwise. I extend the apology not just to Mr. Vance, but to all those who serve the ICE as well.

Is JD Vance mentally challenged?

Renee Good was mother of 3 who had dropped off her youngest child at an elementary school

Vance is trying to paint Good as a domestic terrorist who attempted to ram federal agents with her Honda Pilot. Her neighbors who saw her getting executed by Ice dispute the claims of what happened and furthermore said it's completely out of character, they describe her as gentle, kind and openhearted women who was just trying to find parking near her home.

I don't think it's being mentally challenged, it's about being evil. J.D. Vance, Trump, Noem and all of these other unmentionables are intentionally lying to demonize her and trying to give themselves a license for having committed this atrocity and for committing more. They do this all of the time, and they collectively have a lot of blood on their hands.

Video taken by bystanders posted to social media shows an officer approaching her car, demanding she open the door and grabbing the handle. When she begins to pull forward, a different ICE officer standing in front of the vehicle pulls his weapon and immediately fires at least two shots into the vehicle at close range.

The entire deadly incident was over in less than 10 seconds.

Heck even her ex-husband has come to her defence. Good’s ex-husband said she was a devoted Christian who took part in youth mission trips to Northern Ireland when she was younger. Good was no activist and that he had never known her to participate in a protest of any kind. He said she was simply headed home before the encounter with a group of ICE agents on a snowy street.

State and local officials and protesters have rejected the Trump administration’s characterization of the shooting, with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey saying video of the shooting shows the self-defense argument was “garbage.”

Surely Vance should be sued for slandering this poor woman's death. what a low-life scum.

Walz puts Minnesota National Guard on alert amid protests over ICE shooting

Quote:
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) authorized his state’s National Guard to be “staged and ready” Thursday, amid protests after a federal immigration officer fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis.

Citing “potential capacity concerns from local leaders” in response to demonstrations against the shooting and the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the city, Walz ordered Maj. Gen. Shawn Manke, the adjutant general of the Minnesota National Guard, to call up personnel, equipment and facilities “at a time deemed appropriate.”

Earlier Thursday, protesters and law enforcement clashed outside a federal immigration building in Minneapolis. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has surged federal immigration enforcement to the city, amid the Trump administration’s probe into fraud within Minnesota’s social services programs.

Brig. Gen. Simon Schaefer, the Minnesota National Guard’s joint staff director, said Wednesday the state’s guard consists of 13,000 soldiers and airmen. Schaefer added that the agency had begun preparations in the event the guard needed to activated, including equipment checks and notifying service members.

The woman who was killed has been identified as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Macklin Good. Her mother, Donna Ganger, told The Minnesota Star Tribune Macklin Good lived in Minneapolis with her partner. The father of her husband, who died in 2023, told the outlet that Macklin Good has three children.

The Minnesota Star Tribune identified the officer as Jonathan Ross, who ICE said was injured in June while attempting to apprehend a person who was a child sex offender who entered the country illegally
