Adaptations that ruined an IP's reputation.
I will start with my examples.
Dear Evan Hansen (2021) - I've actually seen the musical back in 2019 at the Paramount Theatre. Some of the best experiences of my lifetime. I am saddened that people won't give this musical a chance all because of its mediocre movie adaptation which wasn't as faithful to the original story. Not to mention those memes make my blood boil.
Also, why the hell is Larry a stepdad instead of a biological dad!? Did the writers think that this change would bring any depth to the story? And what is up with Evan's Zoomer broccoli haircut? In all fairness, at least Alana has more screen time.
Ralph Breaks the Internet - This sequel is so inconsistent by not following the first film. It's like they hired people who have never seen Wreck it Ralph to write the plot. For an example Vanellope is Jonesing to be part of an edgy racing game which she is pretty much kind of "going Turbo." On an unrelated note there is a celebrity cameo of a certain racist YouTuber so yeah...
Honorable mention would be Secret of the Nimh 2. Thankfully, the first film overshadows whatever this thing is hence why I didn't include it in my list. I will admit it would probably make a fun so-bad-it's-good flick to watch while drunk or high with friends. Especially that musical number with the evil mad mouse and the human scientists lol.
Borderlands the movie. This was a product of the writing quality that had taken a nosedive in Borderlands 3 and the following New Tales From the Borderlands.
Borderlands 4 is a massive improvement. It's a good game, but it's held back by this s****y movie and the mediocre games that came before that most fans have tuned out and won't give it a chance. This series won't last for much longer and that sucks. I like this series. I really want it to bounce back.
