Paraeducator arrested for alleged abuse of nonverbal child with autism

Quote:
A Kansas paraeducator was arrested for the alleged abuse of a 5-year-old nonverbal child with autism.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that they received a report of alleged abuse of a child at Oskaloosa Elementary School on Nov. 7, 2025.

As a result, 25-year-old Breah Dame, was arrested and booked into jail on Jan. 3 under a $50,000 bond. She bonded out of jail the same day.

Dame was arrested in connection with abuse of a child, a severity level 3 person felony. Her first appearance in court is set for Feb. 2.

The mother of the 5-year-old child took to Facebook to explain the situation involving her child.

The mother claims that while her child was in school, he was kicked multiple times, his hand was stepped on so that he wouldn’t move and then he was struck on the wrist with a phone.

The mother said the strike left a visible mark on her son’s wrist for more than 12 hours.

“Thankfully, another staff member who witnessed the end of the incident had the courage to step forward and report what happened,” the mother shared on social media.

“No form of child abuse is ever acceptable. Knowing that our nonverbal autistic child was harmed and would never have been able to tell us makes this even more devastating and sickening to comprehend. Especially coming from someone who was supposed to be one of his “safe” people.

What happened to [...] is one of our worst nightmares and it became reality. People who are “trained” to care for and help nurture children who require additional assistance turned against our son for no reason whatsoever.

To say that our lives have now been forever changed would be an understatement”
