I've been in the same job for nine years and only contracted 10 hours or more if necessary and when is available if someone can't come due to illness or any other situation. But I don't have another job other than the one I've got. For some reason I sometimes make myself feel bad for it and that most people do full time or are self employed. I want to be doing more hours but I can only do what I am given and I also don't feel that interested to working up the ladder to a different position like supervisor or even a manager because I don't feel like I'm good at being a leader. I have colleague who has worked for the company for 20+ years and has never worked her way up from sales assistant to manager.

I don't like the word Should being used here. There's various factors to consider like your financial situation, if your receiving any kind of government benefits, if your living with family who resent you living there, what other types of jobs do you think you can realistically get & not majorly hate, & do you think you can handle working more. You don't need to respond to those, I'm just giving you some angles to think about.

I'm not receiving any benefit from the UK government not since probably 2017 or something for job seekers allowance benefits but that got stopped after a while as I was in work. I'd probably do another retail job somewhere I have thought about volunteering maybe perhaps in a museum local to me or something but I'm hesitant. The thing is I've been so used to my job that it doesn't motivate me to volunteer as I'm getting paid at work and wasn't when I used to do volunteering.

Maybe if you can learn job skills that are good for your mental health.

I recall someone here that got job in paint preparation. The painter handles the customers.
