My mom said if someone knocks at the door you should look out the window to see who it is first.

Do you think my mother is right or is she paranoid?

Lololzz,, over here in the USA there is a small devorum, that seems to apply here . And your mum is right btw ,imho
due to intrusions and home invasions. And even the ICE activity here . It seems to have become smart to not even answer the door, unless a person is expected and usually that means, they have called before they come over . Now days it is almost considered good manners, it seems 8) . And you also make sure everybody in the house is expecting them or knows they are/ or maybe coming over . As a Aspie , it is almost automatic to want to think anyone who comes around to visit has good intentions or at least neutral . But those days are past . Perhaps if it was a society of all Aspies it could would but . That just is not how its done . I found out in some heartbreaking ways . :(
Even in the old days ,I read ..that if you are out camping ,always ask ? " is it okay to come into camp", before approaching too close . Its a safety thing .Sorry to let you know about this Jamesy. Saddened me alot to learn this lesson . Trust these days is earned not given freely, Welcome to the 21st Century :ninja:

My front door has a window so that makes it easy to look out. I have to turn the porch lights on to see anything, though.

For what it's worth, I have never even had a key to my house. The doors are never locked whether I'm there or not.

I think she's right, even if she's paranoid.

You can install a peephole in a door if yours didn't come with one...

Because it requires virtually zero effort to do, but could save you from someone with bad intentions.
