About how WP used to be. No, I am new..just wonder
In the thread about trolls I read that this forum used to be different and that some think that it is a lot of NT's on here now. That made me wonder. I have heard this before and sometimes I wonder if other people tend to see me as a person with AS or a NT. I have been diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome after a lot of tests and interviews being done. Sometimes I feel that other people with AS do not think about me as an Aspie though.. I don't know what I wanted with this topic..or I do know, but I cannot find the right words to explain it.. What I am wondering is in which way do Aspies express themselves that NT's do not?

I heard there are lot of fake aspies on here but I don't know which ones are which. I also wonder those who say lot of people on here don't have AS, pretend to have it, etc. makes me wonder if they think that of me too because I am not a fake. I have been diagnosed as autistic when I was about 2 and I outgrew the behavior but I don't know if I had the hand flapping or did the toy lining up or did the other stereotypes behavior typical auties do. Now I am put at Aspergers. I think to be PDD-NOS, I have to have a severe development delay and because I never did, that could be why I am diagnosed with AS instead.
This is the funniest thing I've ever heard - why in the world would someone pretend to be aspie if they're not??
Would people really spend their time on a message board for AS if they themselves were not AS? Why? I wouldn't go seek out a support group for cancer if I didn't have it. What a waste of my time and why hide out there?
The view from my world, which is the same thing everyone does, most just respond different.
I like me, and I am different. So what!
There are a lot here that say I should behave like they were taught to do by therapists. Or that I should be taking drugs for thought control.
They bought it, they are not being themselves, so they get depressed and angry, and the pill pushers make out twice.
Some come here to learn to fit in the real world, and they do, act AS and get flamed. It is wrong!
Their pill priest told them so, and he has a Degree!
Some come here because they never fit in, and when they finally do, they want it to be normal, like TV. The real world will not let them play, so here they act. They just want to ignore AS, people are talking to them, and not carrying torches and pitchforks like before.
I survived by applying myself fully to life. I am old, it was a much rougher world.
Now I want to Master AS. It has been my life, and learning of it, I embrace it.
I have a deal in the works for a variable speed fan with brass blades. Hey! They watch TV!
Are you AS or NT,? Well, do you have a fur collection? Would you admit it if you did?
I have a chinchilla, apparently I need 99 more to make a worthwhile garment. I did not so much collect him as have him dumped off on me. He certainly has a nice pelt, but is rather attached to it, so I will not be commandeering it to start a fur collection. I did have a collection of clothing labels when I was a kid (you know the tag label with the price and stuff that you cut off when you first wear a garment). I think I got to over 400 (I would pull them out and organise them into various groupings and count them for up to several hours, most days, for a period of a couple of years).

Neither do I but I have been with WP since Oct. 9th, 2004 (3 years for me here very soon) and yes I've seen changes over the years. I've seen users come and go and seen quite a few very judgemental users form cliques and actually argue on whether NTs should be allowed at all, and then the ones that will constantly look for fakes. Those that want to fake things, that's their problem, but to let others go around and judge and try to tear a community apart because of that and NTs... makes me wonder.
I think in time, no matter what our diagnostic status is... even that will come into question once further research and testing methods come around. What if that all changes and some of us after further research don't qualify as having Asperger's then?
I have an official diagnosis, I start to wonder what happens in the future when genetic testing comes around... it won't be just a collection of traits that decides a diagnosis then, it'll be our genes that tell the full story.
Having a diverse community on this forum isn't a bad thing unless it's abused greatly and at times it seems a few individuals (trolls) will come along and try it...
Many of us come here, officially diagnosed or self-diagnosed or NT to understand and learn and find others we can relate to. We shouldn't have to come here to be judged by a few that well, are anti-NT or whatever it is. What would someone faking AS gain from being here? A few more ways to act? Maybe some truly don't feel like they fit in with NTs themselves and are just trying to find a place where they do fit in. Maybe they just feel lost while others, yeah they may be true fakes and all... in time it'll hurt them more because they will realize they replaced who they truly are with an act.
But it's better to focus on being a community, with or without trolls, fakes, or whatever and realize that this forum is one of the best ways for us to not only relate to each other but also to serve as awareness and understanding to those that are NT and such.
Very well said, sister.
Don't forget people, it's a spectrum. Everybody has such unique characteristics. We share some but we diverse also, so there's no way to 'spot a fake' (I'm laughing as I even type that because it's so silly).
Geez, for what it's worth, I HOPE there are some NTs here who may be considered hiding out or 'passing' - I betcha they're learning a great deal and will be wonderful around the next autistic person they meet. Talk about spreading education and tolerance and patience with people who are different! That would be a great way.

it does not matter what other opinions on it are, people are who they are,if are aspergan=are aspergan, has anyone actually said are not aspergan on here?
they are not able to say things as fact because they do not know person physically, and do not get to see person,so they are not to be taken seriously, some have tried it with am before [they said am had very low level of ASD because am 'wrote okay',this was during a time when am was suicidal from living with a nasty alcoholic parent, being stolen off by her, being moved into another home by ss,and being abused if attempting to go back in family home cause the ss got the police involved,so their reply of trying to make it seem like an easy life was not welcome],am recommend ignoring judgements like that that are wrote as if they are fact, because the people who write them have not had the goodness[?] to get to know the person in physical/non internet form and what they are like,so they do not deserve respect back.
of course,it's different if have asked for a judgement and they are just doing what was asked.
I'm sorry, it was my sick humour which made this thread about furs I believe
.. When I read the question about fur collection I answered with something that was supposed to be a joke.... (But I do have the cap, it felt wrong not mentioning that) I really like animals, living that is

AS is a neurological difference that affects communication. Because it's recently replaced ADHD as the diagnosis du jour, it's currently being overdiagnosed. This overdiagnosis has led to a change in the communication vibe on WP. Nothing personal or hostile intended by that remark. I don't understand why anyone would be bothered by it. I actually like the fact that NTs have always been welcome on WP.
I disagree with you on the overdiagnosis issue. ADHD is still a pretty popular diagnosis, and of course it may seem to many of us that we keep hearing more and more about AS in the past few years- 1) that's probably when most of us learned about it, so we wouldn't have been paying attention to the same communication channels to hear about Asperger's before, and 2) the APA didn't even recognize the existence of Asperger's Syndrome until 1994. I would kind of expect the number of diagnoses to skyrocket in the couple years after something is added to the diagnostic manuals. Plus, you have plenty of older people just hearing about it for the first time, they obviously could not have been diagnosed when they were younger as the diagnosis did not then exist. I find all the accusations against "fake aspies" to be quite amusing and somewhat reminiscent of the Red Scare or Senator McCarthy's wild accusations.

If there are NTs on the WP pretending to be real live Aspies, it must be due to some identity crisis or psychological problems, right? And I imagine they'd get bored because AS is NOT THEM and they'd move on after a few posts.
It's hard to fake what you don't have for very long. Any Aspie who has tried to pass as an NT can attest to that...
I would have no idea who are the fake ones and who are real on this site. I don't think it matters either. If they can identify and relate to what people are saying then what's the trouble? It's only a problem if they're harassing people or trolling. Hmm, maybe I'm a fake and I just don't know it?
Who cares. Still whenever I see a topic about fake Aspies, I'm sure it makes us undiagnosed folks feel uncomfortable.
