Can we do something about all these ads talking about curing autism. I dont know about anyone else but I at least find these offensive even if it is what most NT's think.

I've found those ads offensive too. There's been a few other ads that I have found offensive before, but the Autism cure ads are by far the most prevalent. :x

This came up ealier in the day as well. We are looking to see what can be done.

Now, if we could just round up a wealthy sponser so we wouldn't miss the ad revenue....

To be honest, I do not even really look at the ads, but I see why ads about a cure for autism would be offensive to some of the people here. Maybe we could compile a list of possible topics for ads and see about getting them on the site rather than having the ads about autism.

Maybe we can replace them with ads for tobacco, beer and pornography

The ads aren't really put up by anyone. They are Google Ads, and what is advertised depends on what words are on the page. If someone posts something about curing autism, then the ads are going to have something about curing autism anywhere.

I would still rather see that the mods can specify what kind of google ads they are interested in.

LOL! My current ads are about awareness, and we keep mentioning the ads about cures.

the Mods are listening, folks. unfortunately, we can't do much until alex returns, but it'll be discussed as soon as he does.

in the meantime - apologies if anyone is offended.

Yes, the ads can be modified cause I was on another (very small) Aspie forum and someone brought up the same thing. Next we knew, they were gone.

That was my first question, too. I use the Firefox browser and had filtered out the Google PageAds a long time ago when they first appeared on other sites so I didn't even notice WP had them. After disabling "AdBlocker" I went to Google and found information on blocking inappropriate ads. Alex is currently on vacation, but I am sure he will address this issue when he returns. Please have patience.

The developers cannot control which ads appear and which ads do not. As a web developer myself, I know how these Google ads work. The only alternative would be to remove the ads. Who wants to pony up? I might be a developer, but I don't make much money and I'm probably going to have to pay for an ex-wife to boot. I guess the alternative would be to move from an ad-based revenue stream to a subscription-based revenue stream. How many people here would stay if you had to pay to use this site? I know that a lot of you will say that you would, but who really would? I can't?

<edit>I was wrong.</edit> But still, I do not believe that this should have caused this much of an uproar. Maybe I'm just better at blocking out all of the other junk on the page and reading only the content. I don't even notice the ads unless I stare at the page long enough. I'm sure that even though I state clearly that I was wrong I'm going to be castigated to no end here.
