I agree with you. Its one of the things that run right through the internet and has led to some sites having posts like "TTT" and "shut up newb" all the time and anyway im against any sort of tiltle for anyone like sir or anything like that. It's one of the things that annoys me about society that everyone likes to imagine or to make out they are better than the next person.

I don't have a problem with them.

It's just an added feature that doesn't really mean anything, so why read into it?

It encourages members to be more active and participate in the site.

You yoursef have threatened to leave over people "post-whoring" and have accused other people of using posts just to up their "rank" so obviously you have read into it. All Anti-Everything is trying to do is solve a minor problem. I agree that it doesnt really mean anything so i guess no-one will object to losing their titles then.

Hey, AntiEverything is against something...go figure. :P

I like the rankings...there are very few people here who I would consider "post whores". and even those that are tend to post well thought out replies at least some of the time

Well, I hope nobody thinks I'm "post-whoring" because I've made over 25 posts in less than 24 hours on this board ;-)

Honestly, I could take or leave the user rankings. They don't really mean that much to me, but from what I've seen, that kind of elitism doesn't exist on this board. Besides, we're all here because of one common bond - shouldn't we be welcoming new members with open arms?

As long as they are opinionated, frank, and actually on topic, nope. No problems with that. Besides, I'd be one to talk if I said so. First 3 days here and I was already on 230 posts then.

I'm OK with having titles, but I don't like the "bird" theme of the ones we have (tufted titmouse?!) and I think it's a little wrong to have to wait 'til 1000 posts to be able to have your own. For some of us, that's a LONG time to work up to that privilege. There's nothing wrong with being able to change your title at will - every other forum I'm on lets you do it, so why not us? After all, we get to choose our own avatars...

Ranking squares strike me as a sort of popularity contest, and I'm not about that.

I want to keep the titles. It's always fun to see what my next title is going to be.

I believe personalised titles achieved at 1000 posts, ranks like 'Yellow-bellied woodpecker' and five blocks representing number of posts should go.

We need to focus on the quality of people's individual posts, not giving prestige to people who have posted more frequently. Quality over quantity.

The system is elitist and affords status to members who have been here longer or who post a lot. Because of ranks and personalised titles some people become obsessed with attaining large post counts at the cost of writing nonsense.

Let's put it to the vote!

Actually, I view it the opposite. If someone is a newbie, we should be more gentle with them, instruct them on things they may not know, expect them to make a mistake or two along the way, and help them figure out how to do better. If someone is an experienced poster in these forums, I would expect more from them, I would expect them to know how things work here and such.

I also think it encourages some people to post more - and get more interaction with others that way. And isn't that a good thing?

But I like my title... :( :( :(

It makes me feel even more individual.
