Has anyone seen this movie? i thought it was brilliant, PT Anderson has really grown since his last film (punch drunk love) it may even be the director's best one yet. oh, and theres no reason anyone else but daniel day lewis should win the oscar for best actor.

I have not seen any of his works, but I have read the scripts for Magnolia and
Punch-Drunk Love. Brilliant works.

I'll rent the DVD, but I'm cautious. I don't like PT Anderson (didn't like Punch Drunk Love or Magnolia--and this from someone who normally loves depressing movies). Ain't It Cool News has been sucking up to this movie at every opportunity. Every "Best Of 2007" list they run is topped by "There Will Be Blood" and "No Country for Old Men." ALWAYS those two fill up the top two positions. I was deeply disappointed by "No Country," so I'm skeptical about "There Will Be Blood."

I know this is an old thread, but I must say I loved the film.

I didn't see There Will Be Blood when it was released, because nine times out of ten, I'm completely underwhelmed when I watch a movie that the critical establishment decides is a masterpiece. For example, when I finally saw Brokeback Mountain, I died of boredom and my family had to have me resurrected by a voodoo priest. But a broken clock is right twice a day, and I thought the broken clock critics were right for a change when I finally got around to seeing There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men. They're both terrific.

Awesome film. One of the best character studies to come down the pike in awhile, and double bonus points when that character is played by Daniel Day Lewis. Certainly not a cheerful film which hurts its replay value, but Plainview is an extremely interesting character and the world provided for him makes the experience all the more compelling.

I know i might get flamed for this, but TWBB was one of the most boring films i have ever had the misfortune of watching. Don't get me wrong, Daniel Day-Lewis was absolutely superb and scene-stealing, but i literally fell asleep halfway through this pretentious, overlong and yawnsome pile of s**te.

And before you get on my case, i have also seen No Country for Old Men and that was infinitely better.

I watched in on DVD one Sunday afternoon a couple years ago and wondered where a couple hours of my life went. It kind of just plodded along and went nowhere. The guy was a misanthrop, got excited a few times too many and who knows what happened after that - he either could have been executed or he could have covered the whole thing up - you don't get any clue, just a very detailed view of a life story that was barely worth knowing.

I saw it. I thought it was great.

I think, if I'm understanding a lot of this, the movie was politically polarized - ie. you either commonly affiliate this sort of personality with the territory or you don't, if you do it'll all make sense, if you don't you'll see a lot of great sets and scenery drifting off into limbo followed by rolling credits.

Aside from it showing way more pushover Texans than I'd think a guy like that could realistically find I did think the movie made good points about chance vs. 'control' and how the bad guy in a sense ended up eating his own hat philosophically.

'There Will be Blood' is AWESOME! I do like that period of history, I don't like rich people, and I don't like religious people and that movie is an absolutely awesome take on all those things.

I have it on Blu-ray. Impressive work by Daniel Day-Lewis.
