Do any of you get really bad pms around the time of your period? It seems like whenever I get it I'm a cat ready to attack, claws out. I try to warn people I know I'll be interacting with a lot that day so they will take things I say with a grain of salt, but it's hard to sit there and deal with an irrational emotional lunatic. I also try to bite my tongue all day, that doesn't work well either because I don't even know when I'm saying something rude half the time. It's so frustrating that I get caught in anger loops all day. Any tips on dealing with pms and learning how to handle humans during this time?

lol arg

i'm pretty bad for it...it usually makes my depression a lot more extreme...i also am prone to crying fits, usually for stupid or no reason. depending on the level of depression, i can be very nasty and lash out usually at the people i care about most...they've had to put up with a lot from me...lol!

advice for dealing with it? well, look at it this way. be thankful you're not a male. they could never deal with all the pms symptoms we do. they'd be calling in sick every day for an entire week because of it....(no offense to any of the guys who are trolling around here reading this when they shouldn't be... )

Seriously...if you find an answer for it please share, it seems to have gotten worse with age for me...I just try to avoid everyone for about a week until I stabilize . 8O

It's usually when I share the issues I've been having with someone. By passes autism completely.

Ok.

First up:

Magnesium. Most women are deficient in it, and when you supplement with magnesium salts generally speaking any period discomfort and PMS will disappear.

Second:

Evening Primrose Oil. Take this every day for the entire cycle - get the highest dose one you can find from a health food shop and follow what they say on the label - and you'll go from a demonic wench to a friendly little kitten. No PMS, no pain, no nothing.

Use them together and BAM! It's a super combat duo. I swear by both.

Also, eat organic veges and fruit, and limit your intake of processed foods and chemicals and you'll find they disappear naturally... I've not had any problems since I switched to an organic, healthy diet.

Sometimes PMS is a wonderful thing--I get to be the raving b***h i want to be the rest of the time.

I also have the more extreme version of PMS, which is Pre-menstrual Disorder, and it's getting worse the older I get. One can try the vitamins and minerals, but it never worked for me. I continue to take the vitamins and oils for my health, but it does nothing for my moods. Exercise when you can, but it never helped me either. I have great hair and nails though.

The only thing that works is Xanax, my bed, and taking care of pain issues.

Everyone's issues are different. Everyone's mileage may vary. Get a good physical from a good physician, and not a naturopath, unless it's a naturopath who works with an MD. Get a test for blood levels for minerals and such. Rule out serious illness. Take care of yourself the best way you know how. And sometimes, there are just s**t days. It happens.

Metta, Rjaye.

No help here. I never had it. Never had cramps either. As soon as I had menopause crap after a hysterectomy, I started taking Estrogen and that took care of that.

I get very bad PMS. My depression gets 10 times worse, I become angry easily and sometimes lash out in fits of rage.
I don't know how to help sorry...I haven't even been able to help myself with this.

Whatever symptoms I may or may not get I never notice them, as the period is always a total shock to me. Varies from 4 - 9 weeks around so I never know when to expect.
I guess maybe a lil tired sometimes? But not enough to notice till after.

When I was in my teens and 20s, I had it really bad. Today, it isn't as bad as it used to be. After I began taking Dilantin to treat a seizure disorder, the PMS wasn't so bad. The medication, in addition to treating the seizures, worked as a blood thinning agent and eased my cramps tremendously.

diet, exercise, dong quai - they all help a bit. Dong quai would probably help me if I kept track of my cycle and I made sure I took maximum amounts for a week b4 my period but that's a lot of herb! it's hard to remember to take vitamins - I have to put them on a list of things to do daily. I do manage to take a menopause support formula most days (i'm in my 40s.) I can't say it would have worked as much when I was younger but the black cohosh is quite good and has borne out in some small clinical trials as effective in reducing hot flashes.

Seraphem (Basically Paxil but an awful pun!) works really well for turning it down in me but it makes me more quiet and numb during a time when I'm inclined to be even more withdrawn (cause I'm biting my tongue and i just want to hide out so i don't say stupid things). That gets kind of tough on my husband sometimes. But If I can remember to take it at night, the more sedative effect works throughout the night and I'm at least a bit nicer the next day which is better than completely psycho and confusing. (oh, the last pms meltdown was awful and I had to grab a paper bag to stop my hyperventilation, etc... I didn't monitor the calendar so wasn't taking anything - oops - and I was saying the worst sh** and I didn't even know it till my husband spelled it out for me, guh!) Seraphem would have been really good for me earlier in my life I think.

Also at work I was able to sometimes hide-out and take care of menial tasks or data entry work or something where I didn't have to do face-time. If you have any choice in the matter, that helps too.
