Anyone ever seen this? I do not watch much TV generally, but instead play on my computer. On a MMORPG I play called Star Sonata, someone mentioned a series called Death Note. I have watched all the dubbed episodes I could find online at this link http://www.deathnote.tv/ and I am anxiously awaiting more. FOr those who want a summery: Based in Japan, first of all. An incredibly smart student named Light finds a mysterious notebook called the Death Note. If you write someone's name in it, they will die. Light quickly figures out many of the notebook's secrets and begins using it to kill off some of the worst criminals on earth, trying to form a perfect society. The police, baffled at the lack of evidence, call in another genious whose true name is not known, but goes by the name L. The series is largely about L trying to find out who is Kira, the name the press gave to the mysterious killer, and Light trying to avoid detection.

L clearly has asperger syndrome

Yes, Death Note is a really great series. In case you didn't know, there are a total of 37 episodes. I've seen all of them

What little I have seen of the series I have seen on YouTube. However, I have read the first 7 volumes of the manga, and have enjoyed it. I am seriously considering buying the DVDs when they come out on DVD later on this month in Australia.

'L' is the guy in my avatar. He is sort of a manga version of Sherlock Holmes, except instead of being a cocaine addict, he's a sugar junkie. He apparently stays underweight (despite his intake of sweet things), always seems to sit in a crouched position, and hold things just by the tips of his fingers.

Here's the first confrontation between Light 'Kira' Yagami and 'L'....

I'm watching the fansubs. I plan to buy the live-action DVDs when they come out in the USA.

Anyway...

Viz has chosen the wrong VA for L. Seriously: it doesn't fit his character at all, and it sounds like nothing compared to the Japanese L VA. Anyone agree?

I like Death Note, but for some reason it's not as easy to obsess over as some of the other anime I watch.

I read the manga first, a month or so before the anime started. When I found out it was out, I started to watch, but lost interest a couple of episodes in. I'll probably watch the rest of them at some point, but I preferred the manga 100% from what I saw. There were far too many Death Note cosplayers at the last London Expo (not that I didn't join in after half a day when my friend made himself a makeshift L costume, my boyfriend had already been wondering around as Light and I had my Misa costume back in the hotel).

I disagree. I've heard a little of L's Japanese voice, and I think the two match up fairly well.

Somebody i met on Gaia Online got me into Death Note. I'm not nearly obsessed as he is, but i have threatened some of my enemies at school to call Kira on them

The series interests me because of the detective aspect of it (Light trying to avoid the police while L tracks down Kira), but be forewarned that it does have satanic references (well, we in America probably would interpret it as such, i'm not sure what the Japanese thought of it. I DO know that Anime Insider magazine referred it as "one of the darkest Shonen Jump comics ever" and it's kinda out of character when you look at other SJ anime, like Naruto and Bleach.)

Shinigami aren't a satanic reference any more than the Grim Reaper would be
