Being an aspie I usually don't like working out with lots of other people around. Less than a year ago I joined Anytime Fitness which is a chain with new premium equipment that is always open.

While I have been able to do heavy barbell benchpress and miltary press for awhile now, I never did much with dumbells because I was too self-conscious. In the last six months or so I started doing dumbell benchpress around midnight, and I can already do #100 dumbells for 6-7 reps. Anybody else workout at one of those chains like "24-hour Fitness" or "Anytime Fitness" where you can try heavy near-max weight late at night with no one watching you?

This is a great way to build up your strength.

I wish the gym at my college were like that.

seriously. .

back in the day when my body could do exercise, finding ways to work out with privacy and convenience was a pretty big priority for me. . . glad you found something that works. :)

Do you mean you don't have time to exercise, or do you mean your body is worn out?

My spine does not function as a spine should. I used to dance upwards of four hours a day; it was most of what I studied in school. I've had to give that up in the last year or so.. . slowly coming to terms with it.

I used to have a membership at Cal Fitness that used to stay open all hrs iirc. Now, I am fortunate that the place I work at has a fitness center that I can use an ID pass to get into about any time I want.

i wish we had something like that around here. when i'm not rowing i'm a night owl, i might be up until 4 or 5 in the morning (contrast that with right now where i'm WAKING UP at 4 in the morning for rowing) and i want to work out but the gyms are all closed. i'm self conscious about my squats and my bench. i used to bench a lot more but i stopped benching when i started rowing. i have bad knees so i can't squat much right now but i can leg press a lot (so far i've done 810lbs max for 6 reps) so i don't like doing them in a crowded gym.

I can barbell bench press over #300, but I still prefer to workout when it isn't very busy. Also, I can military/shoulder press #240 for about 8 reps on a machine. I can always workout earlier when it's busy like a normal gym too.

You probably don't want to leg press much more than about #500 or #600 if you have bad knees.

i generally do between 450 and 600 on the leg press. the problem with squats is that my technique isn't as good as it should be (never got coached on them) so my knees suffer at higher weights. the leg press is fine because it doesn't require stability nearly as much as squats.
