THERAPIES FOR ASPIE ADULTS
I have only recently become aware of Aspergers syndrome and I go for formal assessment on Monday (5th of January 2009)
I love most of my Aspie traits/abilities and would not swap them for the world.
Other of my traits hinders my enjoyment in life and I am determined to change them.
If anyone is interested in doing the same or if this topic is of interest to them then I would like to start a new thread.
I have been having success for the last 6 months with nutritional supplements and for the last few weeks or so with exercises designed to inhibit primitive reflexes
I have gotten a lot out of 2 books
1. “Does your baby have Autism” by Osnat and Philip Teiteilbalm
2. “Reflexes learning and behaviour a window into the Childs mind” by Sally Goodard.
Even though I am 58 years old I have been able to use the information on detecting Autism in babies to help me understand the development that was supposed to take place in my childhood, and didn’t, and now to start doing the exercises I should have done as a baby and didn’t
Within a few weeks these exercises are making a difference to my life.
If anyone is interested in what I have done, I’m happy to go into further details.
I’m also very interested in hearing about therapies others have tried and the results good or bad that they achieved.

I found this book an interesting read:
Autism Aspergers: Solving the Relationship Puzzle

Exercise is good for you, whether or not you are an Aspie.
If the characteristic that is interfering with your employment is a serious matter, seek professional help. If you can cope with it, learn some strategies for living in a mostly NT world. Over the last forty some odd years (I am 73) I have picked up on behavioral rules that make it easier to get along with the NTs. Since I am married to an NT and most of my children are NT it pays for me to seem like an NT, when I am in the company of NTs. If you are rules oriented, you should be able to pick up some adaptation strategies.
Pretend you are trying out for the part of a Normal in a play or motion picture.

I looked at the web site and didn't find any exercises. Just hype to buy the books and videos. I need more info before I spend $. Don't have a job right now. I have arthritis in several joints and can't get on my knees. From the pics on the web site it suggests that crawling is part of the program.
Are the exercises similar to those taught by the Brain Gym people? I don't know the exact exercises but a friend with AS took a Brain Gym course and says it helped her a lot.
41, unofficially diagnosed 2 years ago, broke + uninsured most of my life means I have had to become as good as I can at do-it-yourself psychotherapy for depression and issues I now know are AS.
However, while I'm chugging along with that and feel I've gotten a better handle on it (especially the depression) than the average Joe, there are still plenty of issues I would really, really love to have a professional's help with. "Is this situation an Aspie-NT thing or just me? ... Tips for not bashing my head against a wall at work? ... Family issues, past and present, with a family that refuses to accept the possibility of AS and would instead rather blame all that is wrong in their lives and the world on me consciously plotting to destroy their psyche ..."
I HATE the idea of taking anti-depressants and have done so but very rarely.
So, until and unless President Obama (OMG that sounds wonderful just saying it) manages to pull of the miracle of affordable health care, I'll continue with DIY psychotherapy. Again; usually works, sometimes really frustrating, but a work in progress and part of why I'm on these forums!
Good luck to us all...
