Went to jump on the Chatroom...Through mIRC and got:

[00:36] * Connecting to irc.freenode.net (6667)
-
[00:36] * Unable to connect to server (Connection refused)
-
[00:36] * Connect retry #1 216.165.191.52 (6667)
-

So tried through the website:

Connecting...
Unable to connect : java.net.ConnectException : Connection refused: connect

Tried to look on their site... On their FAQ:

Why does my client get "connection rejected" when I try to connect to your network?
[...] you've tried to connect to freenode during a large denail attack, and our listening ports are closed. Please try a different server or check back in a few minutes if you can't get in.

:?

There were porn spambots attacking the network, so incoming connections were probably blocked for a time.

It is working now anyways.

Oh, and Freenode is not associated with WP in any way. :(

hmm.

I read freenodes's new site.

try using chat.freenode.net instead of irc.freenode.net .. or specify a freenode server by name (e.g. zelany.freenode.net)

I had a specified name and it still wouldn't let me on.

Whoops...I just checked, and all the server names have been turned off as well. irc.freenode.net and all the various server names now point to an ip that doesn't accept irc connections.

chat.freenode.net should work though - I just tested this out and it works beautifully.

I wonder how alex will fix the CGI and Java (not javascript) clients...

Nothing's working for me, even chat.freenode.net.

They just shut down the alternate chat.freenode.net site, even if you have the server ips no new connections will be accepted.

I'm asking right now if there might be another way on...

If you are still on freenode like me, stay on.

Nope. I was told that you just have to keep trying to connect, and that they will enable new connections "soon". :/
