Are there any gaming OS's besides windows? Furthermore, can they run modern games?
I'm getting tired of windows. I'm getting tired of all the viruses it gets, and I don't like being forced to upgrade to a new version every few years.

Save me from Microsoft! :)

If you've got the RAM... run Linux and put Windows in Virtualbox, and don't give it an Internet connection. You'll be able to run your games that way. Some of them might run in WINE, but maybe not. But Windows is the dominant gaming platform- I highly doubt we're going to see "WoW for OpenBSD" anytime soon.

Actually, WoW runs just find on Linux in wine. I've done it before. Unless you got a ton of RAM though it'll be laggy. And also, for some reason if Blizzard finds out they can ban you for it as their anti-hack tools don't work on Linux.

The best 100% linux game though has got to be BZFlag!

It doesn't help that:
1) Pretty much 90% of games were made only for Windows
2) Now with Vista, all games that run on Windows are now branded "Games for Windows"

There are a few variations where the game has been modified to run on MAC or an installer has been included to install the game on Linux (such as Unreal Tournament 2003/2004)

Blizzard tends to be good at porting over their games to the Mac, the same goes for EA(apparently they have some sort of contract with Apple now), but other than the occasional Microsoft classic(i.e Halo CE, Fable), very rarely do most game developers bother to port over to the Mac, and even when they do, it's a terrible delay.
So, IMO, there isn't now.
But Mac and PC use to be close competitors in the gaming industry(yes, I know they're the same thing...).

As far as I know, most of the console games are heavily borrowing from Linux and much prefer to use OpenGL rather than directX. There is an emergent pocket industry for low cost hand held and regular sized gaming consoles.
