I just picked up Street Fighter 4 for my PS3. I went with the PS3 version due to the controller being better for fighting games. This is the first game I've tried to play online with the PS3 and the experience is leaving me with a very bad taste in my mouth. When looking for a ranked or player match, with no types of restrictions, I will typically only find between 2 - 4 matches. Really? A game this big and there's only 2 - 4 available matches? I find it hard to believe. Why doesn't it show me all available matches? My friend who only has an Xbox 360 bought it for that system and when he looks for a match, there's many, many more available.
Then, when you do find an available match and select it, the majority of the time, when trying to join, it will come back with a message simply saying, "Unable to Play." WTF does that mean? I know the room/lobby isn't full because sometimes, when trying to join, it'll come back and say it's full. Unable to play? Give me a break. Something else that my friend has never seen on Xbox Live. So, you spend 10 - 15 minutes just refreshing the search until a match is found with a decent signal (almost all matches are shown with the worst possible signal despite the fact I have high speed cable internet) and you can play. You spend more time looking for a match than you actually get to spend playing them.
For fighting games on Xbox Live, I have played Dead or Alive 4, Virtua Fighter 5, Soul Calibur 4, Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, and Super Street Fighter II: Turbo HD Remix and I haven't had this problem with any of those games. Xbox Live just blows PSN away.
