What is true love?

How do you know when you have it? How do you know when you have found 'the one' ?

Exactly what would you be willing to give up, and how far would you be willing to go, to have it?

How would one describe it to someone who has never experienced it before?

I think I have an idea about this but I'm curious to see what other people think as well. I wonder...

What do you have to say about 'true love' ?

IMO people say they have found true love when there on their pinnacle of happiness, or have a more than great appreciation for something or someone.

I have never claimed to have found one true love since I have so many interests. I have to admit that it never involved an actual person.

Happiness my butt.

True love hurts. True love is rapture and sadness. True love makes you irrational. True love will make you would sacrifice anything for another person, but not out of desperation. True love changes your life. True love confirms your faith while challenging your beliefs and yourself. True love is a religious experience.

If you ever have true love, follow it and you will become fearless. Let it pass and your heart will become forever broken.

Unless you find someone that really does not want to break your heart (and knows how to prevent that). I know it's sounds unlikely to happen, but it really does happen sometimes.

I think "true love" is nothing but pure bullsh*t. There is no such thing; period. NTs made be weak-minded enough to believe that it exists, but aspies know better. We can think in a cold, level-headed, very logical manner, where NTs typically turn into mush. I think that's a blessing.

So if I've experienced love and you haven't, you know better?



Even if I could "think in a cold, level-headed, very logical manner", why would I? What purpose is there to thinking?

If I don't have a purpose, I may as well be a computer or a brain in a jar, to be flushed when I no longer serve the uses of others.

Blessing? I pity anyone who can't value others or themselves in any way than one which is purely materialistic or nihilistic.

I tend to agree wit hanarkhos but true love can be an issue when you are truly in love but something keeps you apart.

I agree with everything you've said, anarkhos.

This thread is confusingly asking two different questions. we have to be able to define "True Love" before we can make a poll asking, "Have you found true love?"

At urbandicitonary.com, I defined the word "Love" as follows:

You can't define it or find it, you have to experience it.

It's like trying to describe a smell to someone who's never experienced it.

For me it always includes a desire to make the one happy that I am in love with. This desire is almost unconditional (which indeed makes it easy to get hurt of course). It is possible, but very very hard, to suppress the feeling if I notice that it isn't mutual.

(and if the above makes some of you think I am a weak-minded NT, so be it. I am not sure if I am an aspie anyway, so it would be interesting for me to know if being able to feel love is a contraindication.)

You just describes manic love. don't expect that feeling to last forever or else you'll never be in any one relationship for more than two years most likely.

Also very true. I have experienced it, I am experiencing it, and nothing that I wrote could really do it justice. It's one of the most beautiful and profound things I've ever experienced.





I consider myself a pretty logical, level-headed person, but I'm far from cold, and I easily turn to mush. For me, just because something like love or a sunset can be broken down and explained in scientific terms doesn't mean that either of those things are less beautiful or less special. I'm just glad that the laws of the universe work in such a way that I can experience love and find a sunset beautiful. I find that pretty amazing

I can be logical, but I don't consider myself a "logical" person. I am an "NF" idealist, and I actually pride myself in that.

If we can't define it, then how do I know that what I call "true love" is the same as what you call it? How can anyone answer this question? Is it consummate love? Any sort of mutual love that contents you? The purest form of unconditional love? What?
