here I am playing FEAR and I'm playing in invisible mode and the enemy can't see me yet they know I'm in the room to they're at the ready. I go up to each of them one by one and attach sticky grenades to their heads, get to a safe distance and blow them up. It's funny especially when there happens to be a bug and one of them happens to land in the middle of a wall or something still moving!

Cheat codes are fun. But victory is less satisfying with them.

Yep. When I was younger, I never used my gameboy color without a gameshark(Memory editing device) when I had them.... I had fun, especialy when playing against other people in pokemon :P Too bad those things drop like flies, I went through a lot of gamesharks before I gave them up.

In newer games, I tend to find them fun, because after you beat something you can go back and cheat, and see if new possibilities open up as a result.

when i had my ds, i would always use the money cheats, as i never had the patience to do things in order, repeat the same sequence in a perfect rhythm, progression, etc, etc, etc. or collect tokens, etc. the health/infinite lives, well that made the game a lot more fun. and also, shorter as a consequence.

tried not to cheat in prof leyton, but after three weeks, i just looked it up, found the guide. also tried not to cheat in the worlds ends with you, that lasted about ... 2 hours.

the problem is, once you finish the half-dozen japanese rpg's or puzzle games, there's so very little to do in the replaying, apart from collect things for the sake of collecting, which i have very little interest in. i have a pretty low threshold for achievement seeking behaviour, also attention seeking, etc.

i try not to cheat as much in the PC versions, but if i'm frustrated, i'll hack the savegames instead to up the cash to level up weapons, etc. so the game takes less time to finish, but still get the most out of the story. i suppose i also cheat at MMO's as well, playing the meta-game of reading up on professions, lore, gear, guides, addons, etc to get ahead.

Well I don't know if it is a cheat or not but I like some of the skulls on Halo 3, mainly 'catch' that increases the amount of grenades that are used and gound and 'cowbell' that increases the amount of power of explosions which makes there radiuss bigger and with the scareb makes vehicles fly around. Also the 'party hat' skull makes all head shots to grunts release a small explosion along with streamers and a childs cheer.

i find it entirely depends if you're playing with others.

i used to play battlefield 2142, even with the rickety jeeps that would explode if flipped over, etc.
within a week of buying it, it was flooded with wallhacks, transparent walls, always-headshot mods and infinite commander options made the early game a horrible mess to play. youtube has some great videos of how bad it ended up getting..

Using the skulls in Halo 3 would be the opposite of cheating. The gold skulls all make it harder, and the silver skulls don't really have any impact on difficulty(Except the blind skull if you aren't used to it. That can be harder). My greatest accomplishment in halo 3 would either have to be... Beating Floodgate solo with every single skull turned on(and simultaneously getting the required meta points), or beating the last level with 10 skulls turned on(also solo). Those were good times.

Well I kind of like having a good stock of grenades so putting on "catch" lets me able to get more grenades and "cowbell" alows the grenades to have a larger impact aswell as other things like tank, and the Chopers brute shot cannons are even more effective.

True, but the same goes in reverse. If you're playing in Legendary with those skulls turned on, it'll seem like your opponents have an infinite supply of grenades that they can throw with amazing accuracy and a bigger BOOM! just in case they miss. I always found that it became harder in legendary with those skulls on. Especially in combination with the Mythic skull. I think Legendary+Mythic Skull = Retardedly accurate grenade throwing.

I know what you mean, when I was a kid I would always try and search for any that I could find. My attitude toward gaming is I want to be able to be strong and unstoppable. I never noticed that if their was a lack of challenge sometimes it wouldn't be that fun. I would just run through the game instantly with cheat codes. I just liked to feel powerful, what can I say.

I use them in very difficult situations where I'm either bound to die or suffer a loss in honor (I choose the latter), quite often in Half-Life 2. The Steam version of HL1 doesn't seem to accept cheats, though, so I'm stuck. There are Marines on one side of a wall and me on the other, with something like 6 health.

That kind of explains how I thought aswell, I remember trying to find lots of cheats for games like BanjoTooie and Rogue Squadren, as I thought it was good to just beat it, but then I started to feel that cheats made the sucess feel hollow.
