when i had my ds, i would always use the money cheats, as i never had the patience to do things in order, repeat the same sequence in a perfect rhythm, progression, etc, etc, etc. or collect tokens, etc. the health/infinite lives, well that made the game a lot more fun. and also, shorter as a consequence.
tried not to cheat in prof leyton, but after three weeks, i just looked it up, found the guide. also tried not to cheat in the worlds ends with you, that lasted about ... 2 hours.
the problem is, once you finish the half-dozen japanese rpg's or puzzle games, there's so very little to do in the replaying, apart from collect things for the sake of collecting, which i have very little interest in. i have a pretty low threshold for achievement seeking behaviour, also attention seeking, etc.
i try not to cheat as much in the PC versions, but if i'm frustrated, i'll hack the savegames instead to up the cash to level up weapons, etc. so the game takes less time to finish, but still get the most out of the story. i suppose i also cheat at MMO's as well, playing the meta-game of reading up on professions, lore, gear, guides, addons, etc to get ahead.
