I have the first part of my newest beat "Waterslide" nearly done, but I need some feedback. What do you think? What is missing?

Note: The beat is not complete and will end adruptly at 3:41.
I will continue working on it when I get time.

I immediate noticed the sparing use of percussion, that being my primary instrument. It works as an effect, but it does contribute to a sense of unidentifiable tempo as the track starts. As a foundation, there are a lot of good things to work from... suggestions would be to explore more dynamic contrast and instrumentation cuts to make your transitions stand out a little more, and experiment with melodic shadowing and counter-lines. Admittedly, I'm a bit of a music addikt, but my ears tend to seek out music with at least 4-5 distinct moving parts. Even minimalist composers use movement to great effect to maintain interest despite relative repetition.
