Why can't people mind their own business

First off, I go to a very artsy College. My major is in video, and trust me there's a bunch of students filming everywhere on campus all the time. I happen to be filming for my internet show and backgrounds for it. So today I wanted a camera shot of everything going past me as if I was walking so film whatever is behind my back as I am walking and then a student looked at me and says when I turned off my camera "HEY, is that for a video class". So I said yes because I was afraid that I was getting in trouble so I explain what I was doing and my internet show and how I was going to add graphic effects and stuff. Seriously, I didn't want this person to think that I was stocking or anything! Then he says "I'm not sure if that's going to be alright for you." I'm starting to worry more and more. Then he says "I'm in the film classes myself and by the shot that you are trying to get, wouldn't it look kind of bouncy and not a straight smooth shot or did you want that shot. So I explain that the shot will be fine because I'll add graphics and animation in it later. So then I said "I wasn't trying to do anything freaky or anything." then he says with a smile "Oh I don't care what you tape, I just saw you with the camera filming so I figure I just let you know." Then I replyed in a friendly sense, are you studying for media too? Then he says in a joking sense "The Film classes, like what the hell am I going to do in the fall anyways". So I wished him a nice day and It took me about a few hours just to calm myself down and to repete to myself that everything is okay and I'm not in trouble, he's in a film class so he understands.


It's nice for people to comment on what your doing but I sometimes wish for people to MIND THERE OWN BUSINESS! You know what I mean, I felt Shocked when he asked me and I didn't like the way he said it, the situation confussed me for awhile.


It's hard for me to understand situations and if I'm okay or not. I get Scared easily and have low self-confidence at times but I love taking risks, but nothing bad of course.

Please Reply, anyone. I just want to make sure that I'm not alone.

I wasn't there, but it sounds like he was just trying to help you out, or make polite conversation.

Right. But it scared me because I thought he was going to judge me for stocking with was NOT my attent.

You are not alone. I always get very annoyed if people passing by give comments on what Im doing. I use to make videos and luckily I have never met anyone who start asking me about what Im recording and why and questioning it in such a way. I would also be very uncertain and feel offended if I was you.
I think you handled the situation very good. I would probably not be able to do it better. I would just walk my ass off without a word, giving a true rude impression. Because I have hard dealing with such situations...

Yeah, thanks. It's kind of a scary situation. I often feel I'm an artist that's in the wrong culture. I remember after I said have a nice day to this person, I went off campus swearing up a storm and saying stuff like "It's not like I was stocking someone. I just had my camera over my sholder looking at the flip side monitor and watching where I was going." and "It's a camra, not a knife so why should people be consern" and just getting fusterated so I had to calm myself down and lightly annolize everything make sure that I was understanding the situation correctly. I felt a lot better when I put all the pieces of what happened together and was relieved that it wasn't what I feared what was going to happen.


It's like I needed time to put the puzzle pieces together of the situation and to calm down from being shocked and frighten when being questioned.

Ahem....STALKING...not stocking. Sorry, sometimes things like that just make me crazy. You are not in trouble, I'm just obsessive about language and spelling. Again, sorry, couldn't help myself.

But I totally get what you're talking about - anytime someone comes up and starts yakking at me out of the blue, it sends me into a sudden sense of panic. My wife actually gets angry with me if she comes up behind me and it makes me jump - she acts as though I've personally insulted her, though I'm the one who just got the crap scared outta me. Can't help it - it's those sensory processing issues - normal for an Aspie. Say something before you sneak up behind a person, fer chrissakes!
