While video games are played by many males, there are tones of females who play video games now a days. There are even pro female clans...

I'm female and I have been playing computergames
since I was like 6 years old. Obsessively.

And I still love them to death. Actually I don't bother
with my gender. Where is the rule written that only
males are allowed to play computer games?

Besides I can say out of my experience that no
guy ever beat me at any of my favorite
games. And those are not any kind or horse
games or silly stuff like that.

More like: Stronghold, Warcraft 3, Civilization 3,
Need for Speed: Carbon....

Well I am a male but I heard that it is becoming increasingly more normal for females to be gamers, I don't know the eat numbers at the moment, but I have read a few articles and pa attention to stories on tv on the matter. Many girls kick but at games, here is a funny animation highlighting the rise of the girl gamer. Girl Gamer

I have on/off obsessions with videogames, usually The Sims or Rollercoaster Tycoon because they don't have levels or targets which often stress me out and have in the past put me into panic mode.
I think females kicking butt at games is great cos games should be seen as unisex not just Barbie games aimed at girls. My friends play Halo and GTA!

i suggest Gmod, it is a game that sell itself on having no predefined goals or aims. plus u get to build tonns of cool stuff.

on topic:
when play TF2 i always see one or two girls every now and then, so everyone with a mic makes the big show "OMG a girl on the INTERNET!" just for laughs, anyway there has been so many girls on TF2 increasing steadily the joke has lost all meaning. Even real boy games like Left 4 Dead have girls on regularly now days... tis finally good to see it. i hope to one day see 1:1 ratios of guys:girls gaming, be a good break to the social stereo type of guy doth manly stuff and the girl watches.

Last I knew, it was somewhere around 50/50.

I rarely use my pinky when I play. There's a very few songs that throw four-finger chords at you, but for the most part, you can easily get by without it.

For the longest time, I hardly ever used my pinky with real guitar either, but once I started learning how to play acoustic style (as opposed to power chords) the pinky sees a whole lot more action.

I read somewhere recently (sorry, can't remember where) that the number of female to male gamers is turning and that there are either "more" females than males now - or that it's shaping up that way with the upcoming generation.

I'm a man, and I don't think its weird.. in my mind it just goes like this.. people are people and people like stuff. I've never understood the logic in gender, racial, national etc stereotypes/roles *shrugs*

I'm a lass who plays video games, but I don't think its weird or anything. I am trying to finish up Half-Life 2, but it crashes when it tries to load to a certain level.

Because men tend to be more aggressive in the hunter/gatherer sense of the things. We desire goals and challenges and seek them out! Women, on the other hand, are ruled by emotions. For the most part video games tend to lack emotions. However games like WOW and The Sims brings a sense of ownership that creates a dynamic relationship which seems to work for both sexes.

There's some truth in what your saying granted, but at the same time I still don't buy into those stereotypes. If they were completely true then surely those kind of games would of been created solely by women?

my point being is that such group think stereotypes and designations are extremely over simplified and are originally only based on a small part of truth in the first place. you take the common popular female, male stereotypes for example, most people fall somewhere in between these stereotypes regardless of their genders yet we still cling onto these meaningless, self demeaning stereotypes at the cost of our individuality's. So once again to some it all up... I've never understood the logic in gender, racial, national etc stereotypes/roles *shrugs*

The fact that the number of girl gamers are increasing is a good thing because it causes interaction between those who happen enjoy the same interest (gaming). I'm not a competitive gamer but I'll play against anybody as long as their not hardcore about it. (Overcompetitiveness is not a good thing here especially when actually is new to the game & has not mastered the controls (cursed console games)).
