When you're a little younger than me, you think 18 will be great because you're old enough to get a job without a permit and you can move out if you wanted to.

WRONG!

I'm 18, jobless and still live with my nerve-racking family.

It also sucks that I'm not old enough to drink. I want to just drink my pain away, but I'm not even old enough to do that.

I don't even know how to find a person to purchase alcohol for me (and I'm not asking my mother even though she would offer to) and possibly dating someone at least 3 years older than me who dosen't care would be an option, but I'm not good at finding one.

So then I don't know what to do except lie in my bed all day and cry.

Well that's a pessimistic attitude.

Things can get better.

When I turned 18 I had never had a job, couldn't drive. It sucks because you look around you and everyone else seems to be managing it quite nicely/carefree (NB where I am you can get drivers license when you're 18, can work from 14 years 9 months old).

We can just be slower than other people at achieving things. After applying to about 50 places, I got a job just over a year ago and I'm still there. Things are finally starting to come together for me now and I'm happy :)

I will consider leaving home soon as after a year I feel my work is relatively secure in that I'll get enough hours each week to make ends meet. It seems a big hurdle. Maybe in the summer holidays =/

Don't drink your pain away either :(

It's prob best that you can't drink alcohol . because alcohol does not help sort out problems in the long run, it only makes things worse. It is a depressive drug. I would suggest maybe excercise, a bit of sun and some kind of good food to make you a bit happier, it's really helping me atm..age is just a number and it's more likely you are depressed due to you situation, not the fact you are 18. But there is only one person who can change it....and that's you! So be proactive...I'd love to be 18 again, although I still act it now apparently. :D

I wish I even knew how to apply. I have an older sister and an older cousin to help me but I'm afraid to ask. I'm afraid I'll start crying too hard to talk.

There are young guys your age dying in Iraq and Afghanistan...and you live in Hollywood, California??

Be grateful for what you have and find something useful to do with your life. Do some VOLUNTEER work at a local hospital, soup
kitchen, nursing home...there are many places that can use your individual "gifts" and talents and I am sure your have such human "gifts." Getting drunk doesn't solve anything but, it will certainly make your life worse.

Sadly, I can't embrace my so called "young" age, in fact I feel old. Yes, I'm 18 on the outside, but I look 16 and act 12.

I would be grateful for what I had, except I don't have anything. I don't know how to do anything and my human gifts only involve my physical body... maybe not even!

My former slight optimism has faded away, I have grown cranky and tired, even though there is a speck of warmth, and also I have been consumed by a greedy and penny-pinching attitude.
I still hate my age and already wish I were in my 20s, because my life (if you can even call it that) right now is dull, dull, DULL.

Well, you are only 18.

I didnt get my first job until i was 20. One of my NT friends didnt get his first, permanent jobb until he was 32.

Just because you reach a certain ages does not mean that things like work, love, drivers license will be delivered to you via the postal service, sometimes it takes longer.

WRONG!

I'm 50, working, and paying too much in taxes.

It also sucks that I'm old enough to worry about how much I drink. I want to just drink my pain away, but my doctor always warns about me liver.

So then I don't know what to do except lie in my bed all day and have a good time with the missus.

I think being 26 sucks because I'm sooo old. I already have the hot flashes and memory loss (and I forgot the rest!). I feel like 90. I felt "old" for around 10 years. I have a new disorder that hasn't been invented yet, called Old Age Syndrome (it should be in the DSM V!! !). You have all the symptoms of being old without being chronologically old. You even tell 90 year olds, "I remember when I was your age...." stories!

Alcohol won't make the pain and sorrow go away for good. Once you're sober, the sorrow will return and plus you'll probably have a hang over. Instead, try to find some things that you like to do that makes you happy.

I have that :D

I wish I were still 15, and my emotions were still acute and raging.

Ok well, where I am most applications are done online (ie they don't even accept you handing in a resume at the store). You visit the website of where you want to go, find the 'careers' link and see how it tells you to apply. You need to write a resume, and you pretty much need to spam job applications with this until somewhere reads it. It is normal to never hear back from them (a generic email if you're lucky) and is what will happen in most cases.

If you want a job with more skill there are websites which list jobs in all kinds of professions (ie in australia it is seek.com.au)

Things are hard for us. Sometimes the road can seem painfully slow but we are still capable of reaching the end and achieving anything just like anyone else

And you posted that why? I do not enjoy satire. Besides, I plan to die of a drug overdose WAY before I reach your age anyway.

Sorry, but your "joke" did not hit home but made me even more jealous and wish harder that I was older. I'm tired of being a teenage peice of crap being made fun of by people in their 20s-50s. I'm so going with dating someone older, so they could have power over me, because that's all I deserve.
