How about opening another tread titled "Cant take it anymore that I am sooo sensitive to noise." You should find here quite a lot of people who feel (sometimes at least) equally exhausted and depressed by this. It helps already to know that others are also going up the walls for the same r...

Give yourself some time. I mean which kind of teenage experiences cannot be made later? For some years, I had been regretting, for example, not to have done the dance courses most of our peers did at 14/15, the classmates from my village did not follow them either, and my mother refused to pick us u...

This one goes to the NTs: Would you befriend someone if you knew they would never ever miss you? If not, why? I'm not able to display emotional attachment or miss other people but I still can enjoy some people's companies A LOT. That's why I'm asking. Yes, if you are an interesting person, and many...

Richard Plomin (genetist) once said that ASD is one of the most heritable conditions. But with all what research has been finding out about epigenetics in the last years ... My guess is that stress during pregnancy and - less - in early babyhood plays a bigger role than "genetics". There a...

Aspies are logical. (This is one of the most widespread inaccurate stereotype within the community.) Not only the most widespread inaccruate stereotype, but also the most detrimental one for humanity. Evam wrote: The worst: aspies are the more rational and more logic thinkers and high-functioning A...

Wow I hope I'm not perpetuating a stereotype by saying logic > emotions ... That's literally how I feel about pretty much everything and why I was able to cut loose many toxic relationships in my past. Though from the looks of it you guys have pretty much covered everything that has ever been said ...

IMO this "preface" thing is mainly an Aspie thing, or to be more precise an insecure Aspie thing. The purpose of it is to show that they are insecure, and to plead for indulgence, so that they dont want to beget blamed for something, or if so, when at least been told what they did wrong. I...

I just happen to read the Patricia Highsmith chapter in "Asperger Syndrome: A Gift Or a Curse?" by Viktoria Lyons,Dr. Michael Fitzgerald, or what can be read of it on google books. It is basically about her problem swith sexual identity. The authors state that sexual identity problems are ...

if I was in charge, universal health care would be the rule and it would be non-profit. How about non-profit to low-profit not only in health care but also in education (up to the first proper vocational training diploma or the univerity at least) and - that is the most revolutionary point - the mi...

But, people understand that they (1st person) need to have different expectations of others as they (2nd person) age. I just think that some people base their (1st person) expectations of the behavior of others on their (2nd person) chronological age instead of their (2nd person) developmental age,...

What I mean by the geek subculture is people who like video games, Pokemon, comic books, cosplaying, anime and similar stuff. I have geeky tendencies, but I'm not part of that subculture AT ALL. Why would I attract people from that subculture? Video games (if done more excessively), Pokemon, comic ...

I'm finding this thread very interesting because I question my feelings of empathy and whether they disclude me from possibly having AS. What I'm very good at is seeing things from all people's perspectives. It totally frustates me when other people don't do this and complain about others without t...

I did not learn certain socialization skills because I was not developmentally mature enough (due to autism -related delays) to learn, understand, and apply it. I am still trying to learn these skills. Why not ask other people who have these skills to adjust their behavior to these unskilled people...

Why is it egoistic that I don't want to empathize outside my kin? I deeply care about the people I love, and I would even give my life for them, but not for others. I can't divide myself into so many pieces, and I don't even want to. The less energy I spend on strangers, the more I have for the peo...

It is a soul thing. People develop in a partnership, and apparently more so if the other is quite different from oneself. Sometimes there is some kind of nemesis at work, I think: If you have had a pretty good childhood, you have a good chance get the bad part through your boyfriends and spouses. Ho...

My level of empathy varies with the situation. When a family member of mine, or my girlfriend is troubled by something, I can really feel their problems as my own. Also, when I'm talking to people, I tend to copy their speech patterns, sometimes without me noticing. This makes me want to get away f...
