I downloaded the raw data yesterday and I have a homozygous C677T mutation. Interesting, this article suggests a strong correlation between the implementation of folic acid fortification and a dramatic increase in prevalence of autism: http://mthfr.net/folic-acid-fortification-increase-in-mthfr-and-...

I watched a YouTube video today (I think it was this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbXxQkPY0Ik) that said this gene is mutated in 98% of people with autism. I've just ordered a 23andMe gene test and if it doesn't give information about this gene, I can upload results to GeneticGenie to find o...

I work in the tech industry. I seem to have a “knack” for analyzing and constructing systems. I regularly work with both software systems and people systems. When I am not at work, generally all I think about are the systems I am constructing and how to make them better. In many ways, it’s like try...

If there's a genetic addiction factor, it can be dangerous. That said, there are no known addicts in my family, and wine is a part of weekly religious ritual. Personally, I find that it stops the "traffic jam" in my head and I can just say things without having to screen it all first to ma...

A psychologist told me that I probably have AS when I was 19 but I didn't come back for further testing. Then i was diagnosed ASD a few months ago at age 28.

I guess this is kind of a random post, but how many people watched the MTV cartoon Daria? Did you understand sarcasm before watching it? Did you understand sarcasm better after watching it? Or did most of it not make sense to you? When I was growing up, my dad was always very sarcastic and I missed ...

The first time I told anyone, it was my girlfriend of 3 years after a psychologist told me I probably had AS (I was 19 and she was 18). We got married when I was 23 and divorced when I was 26 or 27. The 2nd time I told anyone was when I moved to another city and found a play partner. He was sending ...

I'm asexual, but kink/BDSM was a special interest of mine for a decade or so. I also have a large collection of (mostly unused) glass dildos.

I also took it literally. If adult had been in parentheses ("Adult" Autism Issues), I might've read it the way that it was intended.

I consider myself asexual. While I have definitely found people physically attractive, I don't find anyone or anything sexually attractive. I might want to stare at them all day, but there's no desire to do anything with my genitals or theirs.

I wear an aluminum ring that says "this too shall pass" in Hebrew. Other than that, I make chainmail jewelry and will wear a heavy wrist cuff on a rare occasion.

True... though she has a background as an RN, and the diagnoses are written on the report by the numbers.

After all that, it was rather anticlimactic. She showed me a report on 16 aspects of personality (16pf results?), but I didn't get a copy of it. It had career area recommendations at the end, and the top 2 areas were the areas I'm working in now. She went over my scores on the WAIS-IV IQ test. Then ...

Thanks for your reply, Noca. At the time, I didn't know that there was more involved in a diagnosis, either. Though the only people I told were my wife (now ex) and my 2 friends. I'll find out in ~2 MORE DAYS (42 hours). It occurs to me that there might be a 3rd possibility. What if it's not ASD and...

Right Alex, It's frightening because one symptom is that I hear music when I listen to noise, like from a fan, or from an AC unit, or any other type of unusual noise. What's freaky is that it turns into like a symphony of violins. I hear violins :( I hope this symptom is temporary. I experience thi...

When I was 19, a psychologist told me that I probably have Asperger's syndrome, but I didn't pursue a diagnosis any further. Though it explained a lot of things - the sensory issues, the obsessive interests and the need to go on and on and on about them, the routines and why spontaneity was so diffi...
