<quote>Leonard Cohen test for Autism</quote> I thought it sounded like an error at first, but I Googled it, and one of the other researchers at the Autism Research Centre where Simon Baron-Cohen is based has the surname Leonard, so it's possible they could have a test named after them both.

Hi there! I like the neologism "Not-tistic", it trips off the tongue beautifully. I would like to highlight that "Neurodiverse" (i.e. not "neurotypical") covers a far wider spread of people that just those on the Autistic Spectrum. So people with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Tourette's, ADHD / ADD, Non-verb...

B minor on the guitar. It's my go-to chord when I'm tuning, and I always seem to end up pressing my face against my guitar and strumming it, feeling the cool wood, the vibrations, and hearing the buzzing and humming of the strings, and the chord itself.

Bliss!

Sorry, in my enthusiasm to answer I overlooked that you were looking for books in a specific vein.

The books I have suggested are not like the books you have, but I will still recommend them as very good to listen to.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is very well written and read, and is very interesting, about the HELA cell line, and the woman the cells came from. Born on a Blue Day by Daniel Tammett, if you've not read it, is an interesting autobiography by a man with Autism and savant abilities. It's read ...

I don't know what a "coffee event" is, but if that is a few people mingling and talking about opportunities, with tea and coffee on offer, there is no offense going to be caused by not drinking tea or coffee. Are there any herbal or fruit teas you like the taste of? Often there will be a fruit tea, ...

Hello!

Cockneyrebel, I remember you from when last I was on here regularly. Your avatar used to be a Routemaster, IIRC.

I would argue that NTs may also do them because they are under-stimulated, need distraction, or like the sensation. I don't think these causes of stimming is unique to us, what is unique to us is the intensity, frequency, or importance of those behaviours.

<quote>I thought bobbing one's leg up and down while sitting was common... I didn't know it was a stim</quote> As far as I am aware it is both common, and a stim. There are lots of behaviours that are common in the wider population, but they may be stimmy behaviours for anybody. Just because someone...

I find it very surprising one of the requirements is to keep the mouse alive, but no provision beyond oxygen is provided to fulfil that requirement. I suspect the mice will die from blood loss anyway, making the experiment both cruel and unnecessary. I think if you don't agree with carrying the diss...

Tactile things: I rub my arms a lot, my nose, my chin. I feel my facial hair a lot. I stretch my arms behind my back. I scratch myself. I rub my hair vigorously. I have a bus pass wallet made of the fabric bus seats are made of (moquette) and I rub that with my hands, or on my lips and nose. I rub m...

I'd wrap it up tight in a blanket and give it something with a good texture to rub on its face.

And on that note, I'm off to bed to do similar!

Hi all, I came back to Wrongplanet after being away for a few years. Asperger's became a fixation for a while (ha! suspect that's pretty common), and once I'd worked out what was going on in my head, and how to cope with things, and the fixation passed, I drifted off elsewhere, but realise that ther...

I am self diagnosed with Asperger's traits. I have a diagnosis of Auditory Processing Disorder, "a cognitive profile consistant with a Specific Learning Difficulty", and a psychiatrist has noted that I have Autistic traits. I tend to just refer to myself as Neurodiverse, as it isn't really clear wha...
