Some protest info below! Basically, on April 1 and 2, Autism Speaks at Ohio State lined 110 signs on the campus lawn, the signs bearing "1 in 110" on the front and incredibly offensive slogans on the back, such as "for every locked mind, there's a key to find" and "More children will be diagnosed th...

Hmmm, I didn't know they did those other things. They sound interesting. I had heard about the reunions though. What kind of books do you read at the book club?( It's hard for me to read something that I am not interested in.) Do you all read the same book and then discuss it? City driving makes me...

I contacted my local asd chapter and they told me about aspirations. I've thought about it, but they only meet eight times and it cost $250. It seems more like a teaching kind of thing than a meeting other aspies kind of thing. The other group they referred me to won't check their e-mail. :x Well, ...

I'm in Columbus, OH. Ohio State's Nisonger Center runs a support group for young adults on the spectrum: http://aspirationsohio.org/

The web site says people aged 17-30, but I think there are people older than this involved.

Reactions to my special interests? I suppose it depends on which interest, and who I am talking to at the time. My nearly lifelong interest has been the Electric Light Orchestra, and unless I'm posting to an ELO listserv, people tend to get annoyed with me. But I really love to talk about ELO, and I...

Hmm. Mine is probably just "dealing with people" in general. It seems like I've had to interact with people a whole lot more lately, from students to peers to professors to doctors/therapists. It's been really, really difficult, but somehow I haven't dropped dead yet. Somehow... I also joined a book...

This might be a dumb idea, but I'm going to ask it anyway! I'm really fascinated by previous threads here and on other forums that deal with "you might be an aspie if..." I've literally spent hours reading these things, and each time the phrase is posed, I seem to come across new and interesting ans...

INFJ. I get this every time. I'm also surprised to see so many other INFJs. Cool.

When I was a toddler, my feet were put in casts/braces to keep me from toe-walking. I believe my parents went through Easter Seals? I hadn't yet been DXed with Asperger's, though. I think that, at that point, my doctor and parents were worried about future foot damage. I still sometimes toe-walk. Bu...

YES. I tire out so easily and feel fatigued, both mentally and physically, quite often. And it definitely has to do with stress, nervousness, and preoccupation in my case. Seemingly simple things are so huge for me, and I script out most everything I do. I have a hard time writing short messages in ...

I agree that in order to tell, one must have some experience with or knowledge of AS. I have been able to spot it in others usually after several minutes. My disability counselor at school said that she can clearly tell that I am on-spectrum due to her experience, but that I tend to mask things fair...

I was told often as child that I was boring for talking about my interests. My father was the worst for this often harshly telling me to shut up or mocking me for it. As a result, I learned not to talk about them. I have precious little else to say so now I'm rebuked and mocked for being silent. Yo...

From what I remember... conversation, but also conversations with my family. I took an IQ test, the MMPI, the AQ test, and a couple others. She also looked at my educational records.

I have a lip-biting/lip-twisting tic. Not quite sure how to describe it, and I often don't notice when I'm doing it. I also clear my throat and touch my nose a lot. I don't have Tourette's. I'd say that my stims mainly involve my hands -- wringing, clapping, flapping, twisting. I also pace quite oft...

I've been told that I have "mild" AS more than a few times. I think people mostly mean this as a compliment, but it seems to be a double-edged sword, really. They think that it's good to be "mild" because this way I appear "almost normal," but I think these people also mean it as this: whenever I ap...
