funny thing is... it's mostly religious here.

I have just heard that it was common in USA for other reasons too, eg. hygienic reasons.

I read that in the newspaper too (Jyllands-Posten). It sounded kind of ridiculous to me. JP also quoted some critical voices though. Eg. Niels Bilenberg, professor of children's psychiatry, Syddansk Universitet in Denmark. He says that one should be careful concluding a causality, just like you can'...

You could say, an odd thing is also that if you insist to say "person with", you could ask: isn't it obvious in itself that we speak about a "person" - or is it in one way or another not obvious that the eg. "autistic boy" is a person - isn't it included in "boy&qu...

As for me, yes I can see a point in using peoples first language, but on the other hand, we have so many other situations where we don't use it and don't think it's a problem. For just because you say you "are" X or Y, it doesn't mean it's the one and only definition of who or what you are...

If she has children, she has been with this man for years. I doubt his behavior just changed one day. Many women feel trapped in marriages. I think she is trying to justify wanting out of it by blaming his disability. I have been with my bf for over a year. He is an Aspie and sometimes it can be di...

Well, if you want my opinion, MOST PEOPLE aren't that good at mentalizing/ ToM/ whatever. Seriously. People can, for the most part, only accurately understand the mental state of someone who thinks and feels and operates like themselves, or someone that they know very, very well. I know plenty of p...

I especially like this quote: "On CGI-I, a significantly greater number of participants receiving sulforaphane had improvement in social interaction, abnormal behavior, and verbal communication (P = 0.015?0.007)." "Improvement in abnormal behavior"?! 8O Haha! BTW I notice that they don't write...

I've had a look at this forum and don't have any problem with it. If we can vent about NTs, they can vent about us, end of. It doesn't bother me. Admittedly I'm biased though, as my dad is almost certainly an undiagnosed Aspie himself. And he is a very, very difficult man to live with. It's not a q...

I am not married or having a boyfriend either. But it doesn't matter. I've never tried to get a boyfriend either.
I'm not sure I would be able to handle a marriage / motherhood.

I read something similar in a paper once. But it seemed to me then (and now as I read the article mentioned in this thread) that a failure is made about explaining autism as = "lack of social skills" and nothing else. My thoughts were / are: what if it is not all about oxytocine (or mirror neurons)?...

When you're in someone else's home and you pay more attention to the cat than the people you're with. Haha I did that once too... in the beginning of the evening, that is. At first all people just stood there and talked all at once, in a flat with not too much space, and it got a bit confusin...

Reading this thread, an irony occurred to me. In the NT world, people who go to therapists for help with relationship problems are advised to recognise and avoid the mistake of "mindreading" - ie, assuming they automatically know what someone else/their partner is thinking or feeling, because (the ...

See, that whole 'lack of empathy' thing that some Aspergers and HFAs on here are so confused about, and some claim is a straight up lie invented by the big bad non-autistic society? This thread is a prime example of that. That, and lack of imagination. God damn. So Aspies ''lack empathy'' because w...

Vacuum cleaner at 3-4 years. I used to hide under my blanket in the bed. Later I was not afraid of it though. Funny enough, vacuum cleaners were a kind of an obsession to me, when it was not used. I drew them or made my mother draw them for me, made her make a song about a vacuum cleaner, and even s...
