... it's code for "You have no credentials" Academic journals are the snobbiest, most elitist kinds of writing that exist. Actually, I would wager that the article isn't desirable for an academic journal because it's a personal experience, not an academic study of any kind. There are no controls; t...

I do a little of that. Not loudly, but under my breath, I'll recite poetry or sing songs so that I can just focus on that and tune out all of the maddening input around me. I'm sure it must look odd to anyone watching (but then again, I don't really assume anyone's watching that closely), but it hel...

I have some pretty distinct clothing preferences. - I don't like things to be too tight or too loose. Tight clothing makes me uncomfortable in the sense of not wanting to be seen in it (seems like it's too revealing - not of my body, but of me , myself), but loose clothing bothers me even more (in a...

What I did immediately prior to my third and final diagnosis was, "Dad, may I see my old report cards? I have a friend in the education program [he was] and I'm helping him with a project [I wasn't], so it would be helpful to see what the teachers' comments were on my report cards when I was a kid [...

I had one female friend as a child, and she did exactly that. She moved to my city and joined my school in grade four. She wasn't outcast for being new or anything - kids in my school were all diplomatic or military, so there were new ones coming and going all the time - but for some reason, she cho...

I'd say that getting a diagnosis can be very helpful if you plan to go on to university. Even if you aren't needing accommodations now, you never know what you might run into at university, and it's much better to have everything in place in advance, just in case you need it, than to scramble around...

And another thing. I admit that I am feeling a great deal of anger. How could this have gone unnoticed? But I'm even more angry over the fact that I get no credit for getting this far. Oh, I know. First had the disorder mentioned to me as a possibility (by an acquaintance with spectrum family membe...

It's good and bad. I have two types. The common type - chromographic, I think it's called, where numbers and letters have colours - has never had any negative connotations. I don't like yellow/white letters (like C or I) as much as other letters, but for the most part, I think it helps me remember s...

My parents sort of made me go to my equivalent (in my part of Canada, we don't have "proms," but the senior year gets "grad," which is a speeches-type dinner and dance in fancy dress for graduating, which you technically don't do until after the event) because they wanted me to go. My mother made my...

My mother says that "at first, she didn't believe it, but now, she doesn't know." Which on the one hand is good, because uncertainty is better than dismissal, but on the other hand... my mother works in the psychiatry field (though not a psychiatrist). I'm not awfully confident in the field as a who...

Should you maybe link from one thread to the other so that everyone's consolidated?

I'll be honest; I hate that phrasing. It seems to me as though the parents are really just trying to pass off responsibility - to make it seem like they "have to" do something (because of whatever reason out of their control), but they really don't want to. Like they're trying to imply that they can...

It's kind of ridiculous that the school would allow computer times to interrupt naptimes anyway. Either the naps are necessary (which one assumes, as they are especially designating time for them), in which case it is inappropriate to prevent a child from receiving the necessary rest and recuperatio...

I like the "observer" feeling something like that might give me - I think it's related to the fact that I like to have as much knowledge as I can possibly gather (whether about a particular topic, as in a special interest, or just about anything in general), but don't want people to know I have that...
