Schedules! :D I've come to learn they are my savior. Being a single mom who has to work, I'm not always available to keep my 12 year old exactly on his schedule. So we have Wipe of Boards all over the house with everything he needs to do each day, with check off boxes, and the more stuff he gets don...

Thank you all so much for the advice. We have been trying the "Deep breath in, let it out slow" until he can compose himself enough to talk. It used to work pretty well, but due to recent events at home, all of the techniques i've used in the past have not been working to well lately. A couple of mo...

This site can help you when you don't know where to turn. I have come here many, many times to ask what to do when I was at the end of my tether. And the wonderful people here helped me. There is also a group on Yahoo called Autism/Asperger's. Those people are super supportive as well. The key to i...

Dean (12) has emotional outburst over the smallest things. For instance, in first grade, he did not break through the line when playing "red ...

Could you be more specific? What makes him unique besides the official AS label? At the time I was noticing things different about my son, I had not ever heard of AS. To me, i didn't see anything really "wrong" with him, and I still don't. I viewed him as unique because I had not seen the symptoms ...

It is nice to meet you. I am also new to Wrong Planet and I am thrilled that there are people here that my son and I can talk to that understand what we have gone through, and help us as we continue to learn about AS.

I agree with sartresue, you definately have to have a sense of humor. When my son was about 11 we visited my mother, who had recently died her hair. instead of saying something like "grandma, you colored your hair" he said "holy moley grandma, what happened to your head!". Not the best visit with gr...

my son is almost 13 years old, and I've raised him and his brother (16) by myself. I can tell you being his mom has been both a test of my patience and brightness to my days. He gets extremely moody sometimes, which is difficult to handle because I hate to see my boy in pain. He literally will cry o...

Hello all.... I just found this site today, and I am thrilled that there are people here that I can relate to. My son is 12 and was just recently diagnosed with AS. I have known since he was about 3 that he was unique, but it took this long to get a diagnosis. I, too, was told by doctors that I was ...
