I think, especially given that it's Autism Awareness Month, it would be great to re-appropriate a holiday often known for illicit substances as one in which we highlight the difficulties navigating a world inherently not designed for us. For instance, I am trying to navigate registering for classes ...

Hey all, It has been years since I've posted but I notice a lot of people frustrated with NT-friendly institutions, and I just wanted to raise an idea: FILE A COMPLAINT! Here is the ADA form: http://www.ada.gov/complaint/ We're the most black and white thinkers of anyone in this country and world. I...

LOL no. If you't articulate your intelligence then how does anyone really know you are? Just knowing a bunch of random stuff and not being able to use it isn't intelligence. It's knowing a bunch of random facts. Sorry but as much as Aspies like to pretend they're superior most innovation in human ki...

Only Western society has recently been socially competitive? That's cute.

Vast majority of human history has been socially competitive. It's just...human.

Lol @ the idea of becoming a threat to national security while making inventions in a cave. All this Aspie genius superiority BS gets old fast on this site. Really, without collaboration and a strong team to market your product ,your inventions will be moot. If they don't impact society what are you...

Not to be a downer, but all that freedom comes at a steep price. Paying rent and living on your own is no joke. First of all, to even get an apartment you need to have a security deposit saved up, usually first and last month's rent, to put down when you sign the lease. They also run your credit his...

Sad thing is, even if there was a cure tomorrow, no strings attached or risk of becoming a vegetable, you're still at a severe disadvantage compared to people that have been socialized all their lives. You'd basically be at the level of an NT toddler probably :/

Frankly, if you have a mental illness and commit a serious crime (murder, rape, kidnapping, child abuse, etc) you should be thrown into prison not into a mental institution. The only exceptions would be those who have documented and proven conditions that can be medically declared 'insane' (aka schi...

When Leonardo Da Vinci's journals were revealed, they were FILLED with math and science calculations, etc.----Aspie! I'm pretty sure I've met smart people who weren't aspie. We don't have the monopoly on being smart. No, you're certainly right about THAT----I've known smart people who were not aspi...

Can you believe this? Seems that the consequence of de-institutionalization 50 years ago is now, they're being sent to jails and prisons in large numbers. According to this New York Times article, more than half of American prisoners are diagnosed with mental illnesses. Are we returning to the 1800s...

First of all, anyone having children is doing so for selfish reasons. No child has ever asked to be conceived. They do not want to come into existence. They cannot - because they don't exist. (And whether they will want to continue existing after being born is irrelevant at the time of the decision...

Hey Vicky absolutely LOVE the idea! The sooner you can get it up the better. I'd love to dedicate my life to something like this! I'm 22 and aspie, don't see much opportunity lying ahead :/. Just thinking, wouldn't it be a good idea to take ideas from other successful intentional communities for wor...

I don't get why Aspies think they're much better off than these people. 80% of us are unemployed depending on who you ask. Without family support a lot would be in that same boat facing homelessness. Hell a few people on this forum are facing it now!

I'm feeling the exact same way. It's not so much about feeling sad or anything, but really, no one knows what to do with autistic people after they turn 21. It's frustrating to be deluded all these years into thinking you're okay just by studying hard and paying society no mind and then to suddenly ...

I don't get all the feel-good sentiment. I mean, yes autistic joy and it's just debt and all that, but we don't live in an autistic world. We have to compete for jobs that are based around social expectations. There's no way around it whatsoever. There's not much hope and joy to be found in owing th...
