Kacy, I just wanted to add to everyone else's posts- you are not alone. You could be describing my 5 year old son. He was diagnosed in November last year just before our Summer holidays. He was diagnosed because his preschool teacher thought he might have an auditory processing problem. We were real...

I have recently seen Richard Eisenmajer's DVD "Imagine having Aspergers". It was fantastic. I've tried to get my whole extended family to see it. Those that have seen it were riveted. It has really good insights. You can get it through the Autism Victoria website.http://www.autismvictoria.org.au/sho...

What are Jacobs Ladders methods? Sorry Jelibean, I am probably ignorant.

I have an AS 5yo and a NT 3yo as well as a 3 month old baby. My AS son takes up way more emotional and physical time and energy than the other 2 combined. I am amazed when my AS son is at preschool at how easy the others are. It has only been recently that I have acknowledged how exhausting parentin...

How old is your son? We haven't told our 5 yo son yet. He was diagnosed in November. I don't know how much he would understand about it. He hasn't noticed that he is different from other kids yet though. I do explain some things such as "it would make you feel better right now if you jumped on the t...

We didn't notice anything! My son's Sunday school teacher commented to me that she found that he coped with instructions better if she broke them down into small steps. At the time I was a bit offended! He was 4. reading ( self- taught) and ALWAYS talking. We just thought he was a bit quirky, but ve...

Thank you stickyboy. That is a really helpful insight. My son was only diagnosed in November and as a family we are only slowly learning how to deal with and prevent meltdowns. It was great to have some idea of what it is like for him.

My eldest son (has AS) didn't roll until he was 12 months. He was sitting by then and "commando" crawling. He went on to walk at 17 months and now you couldn't pick him amongst a group of other 5 year olds in the playground, The physio said that he just didn't have the abdominal muscle strength to r...

Thank you for your words of wisdom!
We have started trying to address the root of the behaviour, with a small amount of success. We are also off to see a new psychologist this week to see if they have any thing else to offer.

My 5 yo son has moved on from nail biting to chewing his clothes. He seems to be related to anxiety for him.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had learnt an instrument using the suzuki method. My 5yo son with AS is learning violin using Suzuki and I am interested to know if it will suit his learning style as he grows. The perfectionist in him gets very frustrated when we learn new pieces, however he loves to p...

My 5 yo flaps when he is upset or really excited. I didn't realize that he did it until the psychologist who diagnosed him with AS pointed it out. I now realize that he flaps a lot!

Our 5 yo son was recently diagnosed with Aspergers in November. He has just started kindergarten (2 1/2 days a week) and we have a new baby, only 9 weeks old. His behaviour over the Christmas holidays was lovely but since starting kindergarten in February his behaviour at home and now at kindergarte...
