For your age (55), these kinds of problems will only increase. It's not dementia or Altzheimers. Just that at these ages (I've got about 10 years on you), you're losing memories. You can keep your brain active with crosswords and soduku or other kinds of solitaire games. You can be physically active...

I've known some of them for decades - ADD ADHD IQ Some more recently - AS ASD Some are easy to figure out - HFA LFA But there are others floating around on the WrongPlanet.net and it would be helpful to newbies like me to have a thread devoted to defining these acronyms. I'm respectful that AS peopl...

C. (now 22) had some 'pattern behaviors' as a young child. Putting him to bed involved about an hour's worth of things that had to happen in sequence -- some by us, some by him. We all worked with a pyschologist to break that pattern and it worked fine. He has been through all the "ADD drugs" so man...

I know that speech delay is often a part of AS. Does any one else have a child that seems to talk with their tongue in the way a lot of the time - almost slightly lispy? Sometimes I wonder if his tongue is too big for his mouth. Annie -- that was exactly what I thought. My son (now 22) went through...

You'll never qualify for Social Security DISABILITY benefits if you have never worked AND paid into the Social Security System. You could qualify for SSI - if you have NOT worked or if you have worked and some condition now keeps you from continuing to work. After graduating from HS and at age 18, m...

Update on the SSI Hearing. I had to postpone it at the last minute because my employer would not give me the time off I needed. Awaiting another date to be set by the Administrative Law Judge. In reviewing my original posting, I should have indicated that I am always proud of C. and even though ther...

I'm new to the Forums. The Father to a son 22 with ADD/AS. C. was identified as 'different' by a preschool teacher. A Child Pyschiatrist diagnosed ADD when C. was 5. We enrolled him in a public school pre-school program for special needs children and he continued in that program until 4th grade. Sam...

My son C., now almost 23, attended New Way Learning Academy for grades 9-12. Located in Scottsdale AZ, it provides 'a way that works' structure for K-12 with a class-teacher ratio of about 9-1. When C. was about to move from main-stream middle school to a 2,000 student public HS, we knew he would no...
