Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: So hard to be alone with myself

There was recently a really bad storm where I live, lots of downed trees and damage, and I was without electricity for a little over two days. In spite of the inconvenience and the worry, the hardest part by far was being alone with my thoughts, especially at night in the dark, without distractions ...

I have had to give up all my goals, not that I had any major ones, because of my ME/CFS (chronic fatigue) which makes almost everything impossible. That, and my difficulty coping emotionally with living in the world. If I can call it a goal, I am trying to live with my anxiety and difficulties, with...

Texas A&M may not be Harvard but it's plenty cosmopolitan and has a wide variety of students. You're making all kinds of assumptions based on your own narrow experience, which has been shaped and determined by your own bad attitude. As others in this thread have suggested, you may need to look i...

It sounds like she was suggesting that if you do a little bit every day, or some days, it will be less exhausting than if you try to do the whole job at once.

I keep my bike in my house but I only have to roll it up five steps to get it into the house. I also have a cheap bike which I think is less likely to get stolen when I lock it up outside a store.

There's no such thing as hell or god, but if there was, I doubt that god would be so petty.

What have they said? ThRs perhaps the most important fact that you haven't elaborated on.

For example badgering me via text to go out on nights I don’t want to

That's a nice and friendly thing to do, unless they're doing it in some mean or jerky way.

To avoid being judgmental, you have to give other people a break. They're doing their thing, and you're doing your thing, and what they do is not going to be the same as what you would do. This is true of virtually everyone. Sometimes they will do things that are objectively bad or wrong, but most o...

My assumption, which only fell apart when I was 58, but which I had always lived by and plan to again, is that relationships are not complicated, they don't require work, and are certainly not achieved through ruses or machinations, nor depend on on moment when one person says the wrong thing or the...

I like casually holding hands and even kissing on the lips in public, but not prolonged kissing. I think it's sweet and honestly I'm not really thinking about other people when I'm having a moment with my partner. We are both in our 60s though so I sometimes wonder if people think it looks... unexpe...

When I was a kid, and really even now, I needed one person whom I would cling to and who was my conduit to the rest of the world. It was my sister often, and at times I had a best friend who was my everything. Right now and always as an adult it was my partner, and whenever I don't have one I feel l...

I don't know if it's helpful but it might help to remember that hip surgery for people her age is quite common. My mother had surgery for a broken hip at 88 and she came through with flying colors. I'm sorry about how stressful her hallucinations are and I'm sorry the hospital is not more helpful in...

Hand sanitizers usually contain lotion to make them less harsh on skin, so they are not very good for cleaning other things because the lotion will leave a residue.

^ If the meme had just said "I am worried about being the victim of a sexual assault," I think it might have provoked a better result. No. Again, you are not engaging with what I am saying. There is nothing wrong with the meme. There isn't a better meme that would have been more productiv...
