Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: How can I overcome a phobia of bees/hornets/wasps?

I've partially overcome my fear of bees and wasps by learning more about them. Even though when someone says "bee" we think of the Honey Bee, there are thousands of species of bees. Most of them are solitary and you never notice them. Male bees cannot sting. In the springtime some bee spec...

To everyone eles on the board do you find it hard to believe that people can walk around most of their lives not knowing? I'm not diagnosed and probably never will be, too old to bother and likely subclinical, but my life makes a lot more sense when viewing it through the lens of autism. I lived mo...

Growing up I HATED eating at my friends houses because I had such a limited diet. I never outgrew that feeling of hating eating at other peoples houses. I still have a limited diet of certain foods that I'll eat and limited restaurants I'll eat at. Same here. I've had a rule my entire adult life th...

I don't know if this is an autistic related thing or not but it continues to amaze me that these things show up on AS forums and I've never seen them mentioned anywhere else. I never heard of anyone else with this problem until I came across this thread. I've always had problems with going down stai...

Max often does come off as bratty for the various reasons cited here but for anyone who's watched the show for awhile you know there have been moments where he has shown understanding and empathy. Even though the character may be stereotypical at times, I've found myself identifying with his frustra...

I am not diagnosed and probably could not be but I have lots of aspie traits. I consider myself closer to aspie than NT. I have never been in a relationship and I'm approaching senior status which is one of reasons I don't consider myself NT. MBTI personality types was kind of a special interest of ...

Maybe this is just a case of very different personality types. He's an ENTJ Rational and you're an ENFP Idealist. Rationals are the least outgoing and least emotional of all the 16 types. It's not surprising that a Rational might not be able to give the level of emotional support that an Idealist re...

Of course, you'll only ever hear about the second amendment from people who talk about the constitution, and only a certain interpretation of it even then. There's no need for anyone's interpretation of the second amendment. There are ample writings from the time that explain the intent. About 15 y...

I see and understand both "movements", if you will. The Tea Party, proponents of the 2nd Amendment, maybe even some militia groups want the country to go back to the basic way of life of the 1780's log cabin dweller. This is nonsense. Nobody wants to go back to 18th century life. And the few that t...

I'm not an American, I have never visited the United States, and I'm not particularly familiar with its culture and institutions. So what's the point of this post? Do you have any specific points of contention with the U.S. Constitution? Do you even know anything about it? It is a fairly simple doc...

I'm a clencher. Have your dentist make you a night guard. It doesn't solve the problem but it lessens the bad affects. If cost is an issue you can have one made here for a lot less money:

I don't think this is an aspie/NT issue. I've known NTs who are complete slobs. I hate cleaning but I have a very neat house. I've received lots of comments about this over the years but I had no idea why my house looked neat. It didn't seem like I was doing anything special. When I discovered AS I ...

Apart from his difficulties with his handwriting, he struggles to talk and do work at the same time. His teacher has said that other kids talk to each other too, but they can also do their work at the same time. Every once in awhile I read something fascinating here on WP and this is one of those t...

I've often said that I wish I had a 30db attenuator switch on my head so I could reduce noises... and then use earplugs too. The worst is music, people talking and dogs barking. If I can hear the slightest trace, no sleep. Most people, except those here, have no understanding of this at all. Some ac...

I learned TM in 1973 and it helped quite a bit with what I later found out were anxiety and overload issues. It takes a lot of time and it's hard to stick with it over the long term so I only use it intermittently these days. I don't how they teach it today. I had to bring flowers to my first sessio...
