I can be creative day or night, but as a habitual night owl (seldom rise before noon, seldom crash before 4AM) that often winds up being the most productive time by default.

Thanks all for the replies. Still getting by OK without trying shelters, and in Boston I have heard lousy things about them. I've found that Whole Foods takes food stamps. I can't get any of their hot food but the salad bar plus some extras is nutritious and tasty. Got a couple more days of work (on...

Mini-critique: One line you have "deliberated" when I think you meant "deliberately". Also at the end he yells "Tier 2!", psyched by so-and-so's achievement. Leave out things like ", psyched by so-and-so's achievement". I forget what style critics call these clauses but long story short they are unn...

Couple of hotties in the audience there. Yeah, this is art but I don't care for this piece. Not too deep, not too great a performance. Looks like a freshman at whatever school it is. If you listen during the applause someone says ironically, "Yeah, art!" and someone (possibly the artist) replies "F_...

you-are-what-you-is spoke my mind on this one (the Frank Zappa pic adds credibility as well). I doubt any one tone can impact the psyche to any great degree; music (or vicious noise) must be either very loud or more complex to begin to affect mood.

I'm gonna second Nick Cave. There's an album he did, I think with Birthday Party, that competed strongly with Tom Waits' darker stuff for melancholy mood. I don't recall the album name (I never owned it, a roommate played it a lot) but it has songs called "Christina the Astonishing" and "Brenner, My...

I play guitar and make sound collage. I've never been in a band despite wanting to. I suck at the networking/meetup stuff so I've never had more than 2 or 3 opportunities to click with other players. (I play heavy electric guitar, so the music I'd want to make requires a bassist and drummer; there's...

After two decades of getting nowhere at bars and parties, I finally caved and tried internet dating. It was a small "common interest" site and she was the only woman in driving distance, but she looked good in the pic and after e-talking a few times we met up. We hit it off enough to try. At 38 year...

Dry and black humor are my favorites. I have come to immensely enjoy stand-up comedy in my thirties, Lewis Black being at the top of the favorites list.
I think as Aspies age and fill in the blanks they hadn't understood before their sense of humor can broaden and expand and include plenty of nuance.

This is my first experience with homelessness. I'm living in a van. I have little to no work, some bills and van expenses coming up which will take the last of my money. I was just turned down for SSI. I have food stamps which are a lifesaver, although with no fridge and no stove I can't cook or sto...

Good to hear Ambrose, I'll look into them. I am rather woefully behind the times on who's who since Tool stirred things up and raised the bar.

I modify my music in a different and more drastic way than has been mentioned. I make something I call Plasma, which is mostly a pause-button collage form. The primary form it takes, other than freestyle mishmash, is recording a song to tape while pressing the pause button IN TIME to the music, crea...

Country Oldies Christmas carols Ice cream truck themes Nothing else is blanket hatred, there's usually some redeeming pieces even outside of my favorite genres. ObGeek has the right idea there, keep an open mind. I hated rap for a long time but got converted and now I like some of it as much as my t...

The members of Tool are underrated as composers of music. The stuff they do with mood, dynamics, themes, and layering, even before the addition of intellectually and emotionally brilliant lyrics, stands in my eyes with anything that the classical composers came up with. Most rock is too simple-minde...
