Yes there are plenty of different support roles that I've experienced. Some are a mixture, e.g. someone will say their computer isn't working properly, then it's up to you to find out if it's user error, software error or hardware error. This reminds me of something ... if you're an independent con...

You should begin with setting specific goals. Wanting to learn mobile development, Windows, and programming with no prior experience is simply too much to take on. Start with introductory programming and see if you like it. Something like O'Reilly's "Practical Programming" which is a great intro. Th...

...and C++ was designed by bureaucrats :P Saying C++ was "designed" is going too far :) C++ sort of just happened randomly. The new 2011 standard has warts to fix other warts! The return value after the function arguments in C++ 2011 has got to be when C++ jumped the shark. Surely a compiler would ...

Well, there's no future for computer repair. Computers are becoming disposable. Read the teardowns of new equipment like the MacBookPro, Microsoft Surface, and other new computers at places like Ars Technica. Tablets are disposable. Consumer electronics are disposable. If something breaks, throw it ...

The opposite argument could be made. The "proper" IDEs created by Microsoft, Apple, IBM, etc are attempts to compensate for the weaknesses of the languages they've created, by putting a layer on top of them to deal with their shortcomings. The IDE watches you try to program in the horribly broken la...

The problem with this forum is there's no easy way to go back very far and see what was said in the past. The information posted gets lost after it disappears from the first page. I've said this before - no one in the USA knows anything about AS unless it directly impacts them in some way, such as a...

A marketing campaign that helps convince people that Apple's products are technically superior helps people feel good about overpaying for them. Marketing is the science of making vacuous statements that can't be backed up with facts. You just notice it more with technical equipment. Most marketing ...

Start with Richard Feynman's "Six Easy Pieces" - if these are easy, try his "Six Not-So-Easy Pieces". If you still like what you're learning, he has a whole series of lectures.

My problem with copyright law is that nothing produced in my lifetime will be in the public domain in my lifetime. The public domain essentially disappeared after 1930. Nothing since then is out of copyright. (In the USA - it's complicated!) Therefore, the social contract established in the Constitu...

Well, the second part is that cheap headphone wires break easily. If you wrap them, they're bent more and break sooner. I always roll up my headphone wires as loosely as possible. But I'm not sure it matters too much, since they easily get a short in them anyway.

This sounds like another homework assignment. If you know the answer, do this person a favor and don't post it. He'll learn more figuring it out himself. Hints: strftime() and division are the tools you need.

Why ask random people who don't know (I've developed for Android for years, and doing this has never occurred to me) when you can ask Google? I turned these up in 10 seconds or so: http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2012/04/26/samsung-brings-dvd-playback-to-your-android-tablet-worlds-thinnest-optical-driv...
