For the non-Americans here, I would like to say yes, American school is very much like our media portrays it. There are rigid cliques. Your sex, race and nationality, family wealth, religion, interests, mental and physical capabilities, and sexuality determine where you are in the pecking order. Fem...

Oh believe me, I understand what you're saying. I hope it didn't sound like I was mocking you. I would never do that.
Oh no, you're fine. I think we're understanding each other.

I like "Ass burger". That's exactly why people don't like saying Asperger, it doesn't sound good in English. I don't want to be an ass burger. I usually just go with Aspie. It works well for me. It also makes me think of asps, which are cool. Much better than sandwiches made from posteriors. It all...

I have been thrown out of the human race on three separate occasions by three separate individuals without contact with one another. My nickname in school was Spock, as was my father's nickname in college. When I play D & D, I never play humans because I can't relate to them. I play just about e...

I get it, I just don't think it's that funny. It made me mentally groan, and that was the extent of my response.

I don't think it's really cultural. That joke would make sense in America, anyway. Jamaica too. It might be funnier in Jamaica.

Sounds like depression to me. That sort of loss of interest but still needing the joy/relaxation of your activities is one of the first and most difficult to remedy symptoms for me.

Things along the line of "suck it up" drive me crazy. It's as you said about ignoring problems. It's a foolish and harmful mentality. I get frustrated with sentiments about 'human nature' as well, such as wanting things you can't have. I find I don't exhibit any of the 'human nature' qualities, ther...

Now I know I'm being pretty aspoid here, but I don't think a comparison to an asp is a negative thing. Being cold-blooded is irrelevant to emotional range, and venom is just a feature of the asp, for predation and defense. I think it's kind of silly to vilify the asp, or snakes and reptiles at large...

I always figured that the functioning was the point. Can this person function in society? Can they contribute to society? I didn't think it was really a marker of how they feel, but more if they're 'useful' to the society a large. I don't really know, that's just always been my impression.

Do you know if he has depression? I also take months off of talking to people, especially online. However, if I'm really depressed, I usually need someone to come be with me. It's much easier to get out of the hole if someone gives me a hand up. But it also might be that your friend is just overwhel...

I'm still not diagnosed, and don't know if I ever will be, because I don't know if there's anyone who actually can make an AS diagnosis in an adult female. I'm going a little off topic, but I have to say that there are diagnosed adult females on WP. I don't think gender ought to complicate it. Look...

It is possible Maggiedoll, I was 18 when diagnosed. It is hard to find people with knowledge of autism spectrum things, and harder still to find people to look seriously at females and/or adults, but they are out there. Other than the physical, electro-chemical nature of emotions, I think of them as...

I do not like tight things at all. I think the most comforting sensation in the world is curling up with my fat kitty while he purrs. Warm rumbly goodness. His fur is soft, and he's soft because he's fat. All our cats are very soothing, but his large mass is likely the most soothing.

gramirez, you don't like fiction? That's odd, but whatever floats your boat. I live for fiction. I'm not a fan of the real world, so I reside in it as little as possible. Books, video games, and role-playing games typically. My only problem with books is that it gives me eyestrain like nothing else....

I have only asserted that I subscribe to a variant of Utilitarianism, not that it is the only path. I'm sure you could have a different code of morals that achieves essentially the same thing, even if the rationale is wonky. Okay, so basically you've defined morality to be whatever God says, and wha...
