My worry is that America, because it isn't helping Israel out of the goodness of its heart, won't get seriously tough until it perceives severe problems for itself if it doesn't. Meanwhile the UK intends to do nothing about it. Probably because Washington has told them not to. It doesn't much matter...

To paraphrase Friedrich Nietzsche: "That which does not destroy me has made a grave tactical error." I like that. For some reason you've said a number of things lately that I've strongly related to. Nobody has completely destroyed my life so far. The nearest to that was when my estranged ...

If people insist on making demands, they can help by explaining the "how to" of it, when it's not blindingly obvious. If I don't know how, I can't meet their demands. I'm not a great believer in taking on a lot of additional discomfort just to please others. I can be quite generous towards...

That's the one. 8) Good to see he broke the spirit of their unnecessary regulations a second time and that the control freaks were replaced. In a small way he made America great again. If I were less self-centred I'd probably try harder to empathise with the control freaks and look into the psycholo...

I lived in England mostly, which is a slightly less crazy place, and Halloween isn't such a big thing. Mind you, Southern England is thought by us Northeners to be somewhat bonkers.

I never understood why they didn't just brew their own wine and beer. Not strong enough for them I guess. Or maybe other alcoholics had panic-bought all the yeast.

That's one of the reasons I never use YouTube itself. I use Invidious which is a private "front end" that allows me to watch YouTube videos without anybody collecting my data at all. On a good day it also lets me download the videos. I've also never seen an ad there, unless the ad is part ...

Is there a hand sanitizer that is not too strong? I guess you mean alcohol content. Some of them are as high as 95% alcohol, so you might want one that's not that strong. They say it has to be at least 60% or it doesn't work very well. I think they're more a thing for people who are in a hurry, lik...

But it may sensitise the user to Green Kryptonite via the placebo effect.

People actually dress up as Superman for Halloween? Dammit, it's supposed to be about ghouls and ghosts and monsters and skeletons. World gone crazy.

Hope this isn't too off-topic:

It's not a personal story about me, but it is malicious compliance, or at least a "light-hearted jibe at officialdom" as the article would have it.

Sorta like when the bullies in school would taunt me and push me around until I punched one in the face.  Then it was, "Why you gotta be so violent?!"  Good thing the teachers on the second floor saw everything unfold, so that it was obviously self-defense on my part. Yes that sounds like...

If the meme had just said "I am worried about being the victim of a sexual assault," I think it might have provoked a better result.

I've had my tone misread many times. I think of myself as being very meek and polite, but sometimes, people have still read some sort of "attitude" into what I said and responded with anger. One particular instance that I remember was at a job I had when I was a teenager. I got on the wal...

Generating a nationwide discussion of sexual violence against women and the attitudes of men toward the subject is an example of a failure? I has hardly failed! The problem is that men overall have had a very weird reaction, as if everything is always about them. The meme says "Women are afrai...

That same member, if we are thinking of the same person, also made solid, well-reasoned arguments and incorporated research into some of his posts. It’s always interesting to me when people comment on delivery rather than content . While bickering occurred in this thread, a lot of useful and produc...

When I first replied here to the original poster's assertion, I agreed that the meme seemed a bit stupid. Later I expanded on that view and said that it's too divisive to be anything but counterproductive. I warned that the thread may therefore go south, but thought I'd give it a chance to prove me ...
