Earlier today I got the thing on my task bar to upgrade to windows 10. I'm on windows 7 at the moment and I believe it's a free upgrade to 7, 8, and 8.1 but only for a year and after that you have to pay? But I'm just so used to 7. I do prefer the task bar on vista but the upgrade from vista to 7 w... |

Don't use the internet. Estimate the value of these sums: a) 1+2+3+4+... b)1^2+2^2+3^2+... The solution involves the Riemann zeta function but tell me what you think. Neither series converges. If a series converges then its n-th term approaches 0 as n goes to infinity. Clearly this does not happen ... |

Freudian psychology is largely pseudo-scientific and debunked. There is little basis for the psychosexual stages of development or the existence of an independent subconscious mind. Yet when I read up on anything related to psychology (childhood amnesia, development, etc) - Freud is always given cre... |

A very good write-up about artificial superintelligence: http://waitbutwhy.com/2015/01/artificial-intelligence-revolution-1.html It's pretty long, but well worth the read. What makes it really scary is that this isn't some baseless speculation like "we should have flying cars by 2100", it... |

Free will is an illusion, unless you have a different definition of free will.
I am compelled to agree with you.

Should there be a law against public institutions that lie for money? Religions and many charitable organizations of all stripes make their revenues by lying to people. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJ9oBCLwwL0 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2835947/The-Great-British-rake-really-happens-... |

Absolutely Not!! !!
The only time lying should be actionable is
1. Commission of fraud where there is property or monetary loss
2. Lying under oath (perjury).
If uttering untruth were otherwise actionable, writers of fiction would be put in jail and promise breakers would be legally punished. |

What is really amazing about the Periodic Table is that Mendeleyov was able to piece together the known elements and was able to predict three new elements along with their observable chemical properties. And it was done before quantum physics was invented. it was a triumph of purely empirical obser... |

The Royals have German ancestors, so their initial attraction to Germany was understandable.
Queen Victoria was married to a German here children (of which there were many) were all half German. Britain had a German kind, George I. It goes back a long way .

why a moratorium? As long as one owns the dog and slaughters it humanely why should there be a law against it?
We are a meat eating species, so why forbid a particular kind on non-human meat?

Does anyone else feel like there just isn't anything left that's interesting? Or as if you understand the very fabric of the world and it's all gone dull? For example: There is nothing you need to know about anyone except for what they identify with. People are just mirrors walking around looking f... |

Probably both.
The kid's daddy is going to have to wrestle with his conscience. He put a gun in the kid's hand.
I hope this does not turn into a witch hunt against mentally deranged people or our right to keep and bear arms.

There is a whole heap of difference between the chemistry and physics of a live organism and a dead one (even a virus). That difference, I suggest, is the stuff called "life" which is transmitted from a "live" thing and never from a non-live thing. So where did the first living ... |
