Having a life-threatening disease isn't fun at all. I've seen people die from life-threatening diseases and it's really, really unpleasant. As euthanasia isn't permitted in most places, doctors will offer palliative care to prolong your life - which IMO potentially increases the torture of your exis...

I'm not sure if I have a flat affect per se, but my therapist has noted that when she first started seeing me, she did find me "slightly perturbing". That was in response to my facial expressions, or lack thereof. Apparently, according to her, my responses are okay when I'm talking - it's when I'm n...

I wouldn't necessarily say that schizoaffective is "mid way" - I think it is more accurate it is a combination of schizophrenia symptoms and a mood disorders. You do have to qualify for some of the criteria for schizophrenia. It's a bit of a mish-mash dx, anyways - there was talk at one point of get...

I think the OP is pretty hilarious - cremation? Satanic? What? If, during cremation, the corpse sits up and writhes - then it's because the funeral preparers didn't do their job properly. The tendons of a body should be cut before burning. Otherwise, once burning begins, the tendons will basic...

I think negative symptoms are the hardest to treat when you are dealing with a schizophrenia spectrum disorder. You could probably raise the Abilify quite a bit - 5mg of Abilify is fairly low, IMO. I've read in a few places that risperidone can also be helpful for negative symptoms. I've also read t...

The idea about asking how you acted as a child is a good one, because childhood-onset schizophrenia is quite rare. So, if you had issues with a monotone voice, lack of body language and lack of facial expression as a child and you have a dx of Asperger's, then it's most likely the Asperger's and not...

I had a read of the revised criteria and really, it sounds like they've pooled together the similarities between PDD-NOS, Asperger's and Autism together in order to formulate it. So, I think it is highly doubtful that anyone would be losing a diagnosis based on the revised criteria. A lot of the rev...

I can't diagnose you online, but you don't necessarily need hallucinations in order to have schizophrenia. You can be diagnosed with schizophrenia if you exhibit largely negative symptoms, or if the delusions themselves are judged "bizarre" enough. However, regarding the thought processes that you'v...

I think it's possible to move on from PTSD. Personally I've largely moved on from mine. Occasionally I still get bothered by certain situations and there are some reactions to certain benign triggers that I can't control. For instance, I still have a bit of an exaggerated startle reflex. However, it...

1. When did you get diagnosed: or self-diagnose? The first time I had an inkling that something was up was in 1999, when I read Donna William's autobiography. I found that I was able to relate to her experiences. In 2005, I was having a lot of issues so I went to a GP who diagnosed me with major de...

Why are you using the example of someone who was obviously not stable to paint a broad brush against all non-autistic people in general? Doesn't make sense.

Are you getting negative symptoms? I'm schizoaffective, and I'm lucky enough that on the scz side, I've basically have just gotten the positive symptoms. Still, they're a pain in the ass when they flare up. I hate being paranoid when I'm symptomatic and not being able to completely distinguish betwe...

I think it's worthwhile to talk to him about it, and bring up your AQ and EQ test results. I remember when I was initially discussing the possibility that I might be on the spectrum to my therapist, I did something similar and it helped give her some context. Mind you, though, he's probably not qual...

Before I was medicated properly, I had moments like that - they were more hypomania than mania because they didn't impair on my functioning. I would have a lot more energy than usual, would throw myself into projects, plus I had racing thoughts [so, lots of thoughts happening at the same time], decr...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but with IQ tests, don't they tend to measure your scores on several domains, then give you a evened-out score? So, you'd have a score for verbal, a score for processing speed, etc. OP, I wonder if there is a discrepancy between whatever is your highest score[s] and your pro...

Yes, the Autism Centre might be able to help you find somewhere, or someone, who are able to do it for free or at low cost. I think there are some people who will take clients on at a sliding scale, so they take into account your income.
