I've always done this for fun, but even more often I walk on my heels. The heels are wobblier which seems to suit me better. I had to wear orthopedic shoes for my first 8 - 10 years to correct severe pronation, so that might have inhibited toe walking to some degree. Oh, and I eat one food item at a...

Definitely. It's part of what led to my diagnosis. My therapist said that current thinking implicates a disconnect between the amygdala and the frontal lobes, meaning that we experience the emotions, but not at a conscious level. Things (especially stress) build up until some small random event trig...

"Writing body language"...I like it! I'm pretty hopeless at using body language. My wife constantly asks me "What's wrong? Why are you making that face?" and I've always had people ask why I'm "upset" when I'm not. I've probably gotten better at reading body language over the years, but it still isn...

Mostly depends on the purpose. For work and business, email all the way. IM beats the phone unless I need the full bandwidth of voice communication. For close friends and family, face to face is always preferred, but phone is next best. For casual friends email or even Facebook since phone conversat...

It's a mixed bag for me. I probably have more hyposensitivities (-) than hypersensitivities (+). For me they overlap in the same senses so it's not cut and dry: Touch: - astoundingly hyposensitive to cold - high pain threshold (shots, cuts, bruises, broken bones just don't hurt that much) + can't st...

I've studied Tai Chi (both Chen and Yang styles), Kung Fu (Northern Praying Mantis and Ba Gua Zhang styles), Judo, and Okinawan Karate (Goju Ryu and Shorin Ryu styles) for several years (currently studying Karate, Judo, and Tai Chi). I started for the fitness benefits (I'm 6'3", so self-defense isn'...

Diagnosed simple motor tic. Mostly manifests itself as strong blinking or a twitch around the mouth. Occasionally my whole head jerks to the left. Gets mistaken for "making a face" all the time. On the plus side, nobody on the bus talks to me.

I also have a pretty hard time distinguishing between feelings. I just don't seem to have the vocabulary to identify them or describe them ( alexithymia ). Since my diagnosis, my wife and I have been comparing notes, and, well, it's been pretty humbling to find out just how bad I am at identifying e...

Hi aspiescan, I was diagnosed last year (at 38) by my therapist, who I was seeing due to problems in my marriage. It turns out the therapist is a specialist in ASD with children as well, so she was pretty well tuned into my symptoms. She "suggested" the diagnosis at one session. I went home and, in ...

Lately, I've been disclosing it with: "I am autistic. Specifically, I have Asperger's Syndrome." What I say next pretty much depends on who I'm disclosing to, and why. With my Chief Engineer at work recently, I didn't need to say much more, since he knew what it was. The conversation was focused on ...

Impairments in executive function are associated with autism, as well as ADHD, Tourette's, OCD, depression, and other psychiatric or developmental disorders. Motivation falls into that, so it just comes with the bag of tricks. The obsession is the flip side of the same dysfunction. [note: I'm using ...
