I was a headbanger from about 9 months until I was around 14 years old. I just remember liking the feeling, it didn't hurt, and was really soothing. My ASD son will hit himself in the head, but he only does it when he's frustrated or mad. If he were doing it because he liked it, I wouldn't worry abo...

We were anti-meds for years. We finally all agreed that we could not go on living like we were, it wasn't fair for our ASD kid and his siblings for our whole lives to revolve around my son's anxiety. He was diagnosed with anxiety disorder separate from the ASD, because it was pretty severe. He is on...

I should have been more specific. My daughter didn't pull her eyelashes out, she just pulled on them. She'd do one side, and then the other, and back and forth etc. She does this with all kinds of things with her body, and a lot of the times is unaware she's even doing it...in her case, it's just an...

Hi, these sound like tics. Specifically complex motor tics. My daughter (not AS) started similar behaviors (eyelash pulling, multiple motor and vocal tics-although at the time we didn't know what it was) when she was 4. We took her to doctor this year over it, because she started the tapping/touchin...

Sounds similar to my ds. His processing speed tested so low, it was almost in the mentally ret*d range, although he scored highly gifted in every area (except math). That is a ton of money for a 24 week program, I think....I'd look at other options. We homeschool as well, and we just started using a...

my son (almost 9) touches everything, he is ALWAYS fiddling with something, even if it's just his own hands/fingers. He's always been this way. He is very sensory seeking though. My other to children don't do this, so I've always assumed it was an AS thing.

Hi- I started the rocking on my hands and knees as a baby in my crib, and I'd butt my head on the wood of my crib, hard enough to move my crib! I would sit upright and bang my head on the back of the couch and walls, and every night before I went to bed, I'd bang my head on my headboard with my pill...

We think (well, i guess we know) that our daughter has tourettes. She is 7, and she's not our ASD kid. She's been having tics since the age of about 4.5 (first vocal, then motor and now she has both). She's actually got worse in the last few months, so we took her to a neurologist to rule out anythi...

One reason why I'm glad we homeschool....not to have to deal with this kind of stuff. I do have a kid who's a genius, but all the smarts in the world aren't going to matter when he is grown, if he can't learn to interact properly and get along with people. I do know if he was in school, there is abs...

He's had several over the years....animals is one that never goes away, others that have come and gone or lost their intensity over the years are: videos about big machines, chess, different video games, LOTR, certain books, monster trucks/cars, the alphabet, states/maps, etc. So many to even rememb...

I'd say it's saying or making noise for their own enjoyment, or it soothes or makes them happy. My son seems to do it because he just enjoys it. Just now, I gave him some apple slices for his snack, and he said "thank you, hugs are the only thing in the world", and he's not stressed at all. He just ...

My son verbal stims ALL the time. Right now he saying "hugs are cute", "hugs are the only thing in the world", and a loud sound & then he says "picture" at the end. He says these things sometimes hundreds of times a day. Loudly & then under his breath sometimes where you have to be right by ...

My son was diagnosed at age 7 as well, and we told him matter of factly. That's just the kind of kid he is-factual. He has another medical condition he's had since he was 1 year old, and has always know about it, so this was just one of those things that we told him was just the way he was, and that...

We homeschool (mostly unschool) too. My son is 7.5. We knew from the time he was a toddler he would not do well in a school setting, and he is several grade levels ahead in some subjects, and we knew we could best fill his educational needs ourselves. It is wonderful for us, he LOVES to learn, and i...

Is constant noisemaking something kids with AS will outgrow? My ds 7 pretty much constantly hums and makes all sorts of noises (haha as I'm even typing this he's humming and making airplane whine type noises while he's eating) ALL day long. We homeschool, so I'm around him all the time, it's cute, b...

We first started noticing our son's special interests somewhere between 18 months and 2 years. It started with cars/trucks, especially monster trucks. Then these certain videos called "There Goes A ...truck/bus etc." and then US states followed by world geography and animals. These went on until he ...
