No one ever blames themselves.

If you did the best you could under the circumstances, it's hard to hold yourself accountable. Especially when, in many of our cases, we ARE discriminated against for something we really can't help.

Oh c'mon, it couldn't have been that bad. Unless it was something illicit, in which case you couldn't cite it if you wanted to.

if there is a vocational rehabilitation program in your city, they may be able to coach you better on how to deal with this problem, or even hook you up with employers willing to work with your history. You sound like me. I haven't had 40 jobs, but a LOT. And I agree, it takes a toll. I'm still try...

he isn't referring to anything. he's asking a question. and as far as I know, it ends at the same time as it would for a neurotypical.

I got fired 4 days ago, the reason I got fired is because i was making mistakes with details. I think it was a combination of my autistic tendencies and my adhd. They said it was due to mistakes with details? I'm surprised - Why? A lot of people on the spectrum have trouble processing information o...

I've been on SSI for almost a year. Does you have to always inform employers if you've ever received such benefits? I always see that asked on applications, like "have you ever received SSDI." At least I think I do. It seems like if I ever ended up on it, I'd have to confide for the rest of my life...

I agree with the OP. I even agree with his word choice, that it's discriminating toward people with this condition. It's also ridiculous how much emphasis is placed social competence, but I think everyone here would agree with that.

Sense of personal pride, accomplishment, and self sufficiency. Yeah. The stigma of being on social security is too great to deal with. It should be a last resort if possible. But then dealing with a childish work force that's blind to the struggles of people on the spectrum can be just horrible. So...

Yeah, that's me. I've effectively been employed almost non-stop since late 2008 (with a long 8-month hiatus from mid-2011 to early 2012). They're all low-education manual labour jobs, menial tasks so to speak. None of the jobs relate to each other, except for my string of cleaning jobs. My resumé i...

If I didn't have disability, I'd be starving on the streets. I've been through an insane number of jobs and I just can't hold it long enough foe people to see beyond my socially poor introduction. I'd say keeping a job is 80% social graces, and 20% actual good work. That is so true, and so horribly...

I don't see why not. But it might be individual. Some people might not like the subject, but if they set aside distractions, they can put forth the effort and pay attention.
