Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Is it true that people with Aspergers have perfect pitch...?

The number I had heard was that close to 1 in 20 people on the spectrum had it. That doesn't sound high, but that's much higher than the general population. Here's my belief as to why that is. There's pretty good evidence that people with perfect pitch acquire the skills for it early in life. They u...

I agree about playing music, less about the music subculture itself. I love playing music while people are grooving to it and having a great time. I don't like to take breaks, though, because if I'm not careful, someone I don't know tries to chat me up. I'd rather sit in the back and play tunes by m...

Except the law of homophones, of course.

More specifically heterographs.

I was once hit by a bully on top of the head with a book that left a welt so large it stayed for a long time and actually hurt. While we're on the subject of bully stories (sorry) I had my head throw into a locker and it bled all over the place. Heads do that, though, when cut. It was more shocking...

Perhaps I was more "bullied" by kids and I did not realize it? I wonder about this, too. Certainly there was name calling and ostracizing, but when you don't really care whether you're ostracized, that's not exactly punishment. :) I don't consider myself to have been bullied (well, very much at lea...

Women see confident men as good mates. Confident men don't put up with BS. Confident men are somewhat arrogant (or at least act like it) Confident men dress well Women also look for competence in the men they seek as mates. That means you go and do things you are good at when looking for women. If ...

He will lead a happier life if he does. Simple as that. A giant, enormous assumption which might be rooted in the AS tendency to think that one's own path to happiness is implicitly everybody else's path to happiness. BS. If the idea is to pick up girls, Gideon's advice may work. But there's a good...

I like knitting.

+1!

I actually like some individual sports (cycling, swimming, etc.). No predicting other people's actions and compensating accordingly. (Guess who got faked out almost effortlessly in team sports?)

I hated it in almost every respect. I got As in gym, but that's because the grade was entirely (and I mean ENTIRELY) attendance based.

I'd ask the reverse question. How often does someone neurotypical enter into the flow state?

When I was growing up, I can remember my mother telling me every year before school started, "Now I want you to try and make one new friend this year." I remember on one occasion she was trying to not break out in tears. The thing is that I consistently didn't make new friends. Occasionally I'd have...

Huh. The mouth did because that jumped out at me. You can't ask a question like that and then specify WHICH part jumps out at you. :)

Take something you like to do (or think you might like to learn more about), and then find others that like the same thing. It could be an activity, club, book group, bird watchers, etc. It helps to choose an activity which is somewhat tolerant of eccentricities. :)

Shift Journal reposts many entries from Kingdom. Mark's original post on the matter speculates that, in this context, "introvert" is a code word for "autistic."

The problem with this classification system is that it creates discreet categories that should be independent in their theory but really aren't independent in practice. It doesn't really take into account the fact that cognitive social intuition / social performance difficulties, behavioral difficu...
