I was diagnosed autie as a child, schizoaffective within the last two years. The pdoc who diagnosed Schizoaffective disorder described me as having "autistic symptoms," but seemed to suggest that I'd learned to compensate for the autism over the years. She did acknowledge that the "auty" aspects of ...

I think of the past as falling behind me, the present as though I'm standing on a moving floor, the future ascending before me, so I suppose it's like being on the apex of a moving wheel. But I'm much more aware of sideways in time, the sense that if I step just the right way and twist I'll be somew...

Depending on which condition I'm talking about, I'll say I'm on the autistic spectrum, or the schizophrenic spectrum. The auty side of things has caused problems in the past, but not nearly so much as the schizoaffective, which I'm more reluctant to talk about. Once you drop "schizo" into the conver...

It probably is some kind of sensory input... but you are wise to keep an eye on it. My fifteen year old has recently graduated from rocking and flapping to banging his head on walls, and scratching himself... he was shocked himself when he saw what he'd done to his poor forehead (dug his nails in an...

My son heard multiple languages spoken as a young child... his first words were a sentence that incorporated vocabulary from two different languages... so yes, I know that it's possible for aspie kids to pick up languages early. (My son was eight months and two weeks when he first spoke, though afte...

Well, apparently I was diagnosed autistic when I was a kid, but nowadays I'd consider myself to be aspie.

Well done you. I don't see the need to kill any creature unless you have to. That was a good lesson to teach your child.

I don't think she's aspie. I know it's nice to imagine we have something in common with our "heroes", but this "pin the tail on the donkey" approach to claiming everyone we like as aspie isn't terribly helpful. Please don't think I'm trying to be mean, or pick on you, but I really don't think she's ...

Well good news guys... he got his first set of results back from music. His solo performance piece got him an A. We'll be finding out how he did in his orchestral piece later this week, or the start of next. But the boost to his confidence has been quite dramatic.

Well, I've decided that the class he hates the most, and gets most stressed in, probably isn't worth him continuing in. I'm going to see if the teachers will allow him into the music room to practise his piano (which he loves) since an oasis of calm in the school week will do him a lot more good tha...

Well, I took him out of school early, we went into town and bought him a violin (he's a pianist and has been itching to start violin for years... I told him when he got to a certain standard on piano I'd get him another instrument. He got there...) and he's excited about starting. In fact so much so...

Anyone else remember when this subforum was originally set up to help those of us with comorbids? A lot of people were against it, saying that the board would be overrun by people with Mental Health Issues, and it would detract from the aspieness of the forum as a whole. Well, I just wanted to say t...

I'm not sure what the "rhythm" is, but recently I've been falling asleep later and later, until now I'm falling asleep at eight am, and sleeping till half one or two pm. It's bloody awful. I've been through this before, I only hope that I can get myself back to normal at some point.

Wow, I can't wait till he's out of the secondary school system. He went on a school trip today, and really enjoyed the content (art gallery, play, etc.) But the trip back on the school bus just became an endurance contest for him, as all the kids just jeered at him. I'm considering keeping him off s...
