Not really an Aspie, but autistic, and I definitely would hit and bite when I was mad. I couldn't use words, so I did the only thing I could do.

Sometimes I'm nonverbal for 12-24 hours.. sometimes for days or weeks. It just depends. When you are non-verbal for days or weeks, is it then that you cannot use the function to speak like in Verdandi's link, that your mind is still forming words, but you loose function to say it or is it more like...

I'm sorry, but I disagree. Sometimes we have totally random obsessions. They can even appear to be related when they're not. Example: My grandmother died two years ago. I saw her most every day for most of my life, and it's a huge loss. And now, every time someone says "grandmother," I laugh hysteri...

I tend to be very aloof as opposed to awkward or unusual. I mean, when I do interact I AM a bit odd, but.... well, I'm kind of cute, and it kind of makes up for any oddness. At least, no one's ever minded thus far, but I'm only 24.

1. You can't meet criteria for both disorders. If you meet criteria for autistic disorder (AD), it trumps meeting criteria for AS, and so you have AD. 2. I think this is a normal part of development that he's going through a bit late. This is totally normal for ASD kiddos. 3. I don't think you're an...

Sometimes when I'm worried about something, it comes out in funny ways, including in ways such as obsessing over things that are long since passed. While I'd not say that it's a metaphor or anything like that, I think it's very possible that she's worried about something here and now and it's just p...

To be clear, it will be "autism spectrum disorder." It's a whole new diagnosis.

The majority of people with ASDs do NOT have accompanying intellectual disability, if you run the numbers. 30% or less, and I suspect that I high number of those people just don't test well. I don't like to be treated like I have ID either, even though I have classic autism. It doesn't mean I should...

Thanks, Verdandi, for affirming my concerns.

As far as I'm concerned, not only do I not want an Aspie speaking up for me (though I am by no means low-functioning), I also don't want any other autistic, HF or LF or whatEVER speaking up for me, because THEY'RE NOT ME. The issue isn't one of HF/LF but one of difference between and among autistics...

People often judge me not to be very intelligent. I'm not sure if it's my body language, expressions, or my limited verbal ability. I wish I could type all the time, so people could see the real me.

Every time someone brings this up I get the feeling that someone's saying, without saying, that people with Asperger's are better than people with autistic disorder. Maybe I'm just being hypersensitive, but I don't like the feeling behind these posts. Like, "Let's get one thing straight, I may be di...

Just because it's appropriate... If I had a way to tell you With my words then I would say First and foremost that I love you I’d tell you every single day. I’d tell you how much it pains me To whine and scream and fight, But that I can’t seem to help myself, In this world so loud and bright. I’d te...
