Does anyone's personality go in the opposite direction of their AS tendencies? I'm a Myers-Briggs F, though only weakly (INFP), and I wonder if this is one of the main reasons I'm not quite on the spectrum. I have a lot of AS traits, including some social ones, and I suspect I could've tested as on...

it's interesting question. what is "quirk" and what is "personality trait?" and how to know which is which? (uh oh. this might be one my mind for the rest of the day. :D)

i don't know about the exploitation question. on the one hand, i don't know about using autism to sell frozen dinners. on the other hand, it really is a pretty good video, and it is a nice counter-point to "speaks." i suppose if you have to sell, at least you can raise awareness too. this video seem...

i agree with everything sparrow rose said. apparently one of the writers of the show has a child with AS, and i think it's pretty realistic. i do sometimes disagree with the way the parents handle things, but i think they're basically loving and are just learning as they go along too. (and i could h...

On this topic - do people have difficulty talking or saying words at certain times? Sometimes starting a sentence or sometimes spitting out a word or phrase mid sentence. I am very verbal - sometimes too much. I never stuttered as a kid & have no other verbal difficulties... BUT, sometimes I ph...

:D if you hate them, there isn't one. i guess that's both safe (and fair) to say. i think i'm a repressed extrovert in some ways, and i sometimes think a little theory of mind would be helpful in keeping my foot out of my mouth---which, among other things, limits my sociability factor. (that, an abi...

i've seen this topic increasingly in aspie/autie blogs, etc. i go through periods of completely not talking too, but only in cases of extreme shutdown. i don't know if it's more or a sensory issue for some (overhwelm) or more of a processing issue, or whether it varies. personally, i know i can't "s...

i think it was, in some ways. it might have an evolutionary function in terms of reproduction, but for the most part---it doesn't seem to work well. arranged marriages often work as well (or as poorly) as chosen ones. it's more akin to temporary insanity than it is to anything with a efficient funct...

i'm fascinated by this question too. (in fact, i think i'm a little obsessive about it since examining my own auditory processing disorder, and also learning of someone who was "non-verbal" for most of her life, but can now use a keyboard to communicate. so the differences between "verbal" and "non-...

i was with an HFA man for about eight years, and the sense of humor was very similar. he had a "performance art" approach to the non-autistic world (without calling it that, the non-autistic world---or without calling it performance art, for that matter. :) I can completely relate to this operandus...

i don't know. i think it's kind of helpful, especially if you're in some form of depression or extended shutdown and don't want direct human contact. some with AS (including myself) tend to "collect" celebrity heroes as a form of comfort. i'm especially fascinated by the lives of famous people who a...

i don't know, but i suspect it's pretty common. things from the past tend to be pretty vivid, (intense long term memory) and if you're always on pins and needles anyway because you're not sure of the social rules---it just seems like it would be easy to obsess about having possibly done something wr...

I I really think that this is the case because when I am under stress, or even really happy, I get "lost". I don't know what anyone is feeling - and that makes sense because if I am processing feelings cognitively then when my capacity is diminished... I would be blind. . i definitely think a lot o...

well--i'm not looking for a cure at any point, really. but it would be nice to have more social skills and some idea about how the whole thing works, and some idea of what to do, say, etc. that wouldn't have things in an uproar. i don't know if i "enjoy" autism, but i do like some of the strengths i...

it sounds interesting. i'll have to see if i can stream it. (i had to stop owning a television because i'm such an addict.)

edit: ps. i just saw an episode (man vs. possum), and i didn't think he was so severe. all of that was really familiar from my childhood---including the tv fixation.)
