Me and my husband are both on the autism spectrum and have been happily married for more than 20 years. We have a teenage son and he's great. So yes, it can work fine.

As we know, Asperger syndrome isn't always mild. Autism isn't always severe. What they find is that both can be mild, moderate or severe, because it's the same thing. just different presentations of it. Same as you can have people who are completely blind or partially blind. Or people who are comple...

If I know it's going to happen, and it's from a safe person, and it's either very gentle overall pressure or repetitive gentle touch, it's great. Unexpected touch is like being given an electric shock.

I think there's a debate to be had about whether there's the same underlying brain wiring mechanism behind your challenge in keeping up with the party, and mine in the sensory overload, though - both involve the brain trying to route too much info down brain wiring never designed to handle it, and g...

I have problems answering a lot of the MB questions in a meaningful way, to be honest. Whilst it's true that I seek out quieter activities, it's because of sensory overload. I'd love to be able to party all night. That's the sort of problem I have with various questions in it. Answering them as "thi...

We met through mutual friends, at a party. They both knew that we were single and were looking for someone to have a relationship with...and it worked beautifully. Both on the spectrum. Left to my own choices, I only picked completely unsuitable people.

Yup, faceblind as well as aspie. Makes for an interesting life trying to work out which is my child when I pick up from events, for a start. Often can't recognise people I've known for years.

Yup, I have a very childlike view of the world - love playing with toys, love visiting zoos and caring for animals etc. I'm not sure my emotional age ever got beyond about 8 yrs old.

Yup, hate being photographed - feels like a large eye looking back at me, somehow. Wonder if it's related to the brain wiring differences we often have that mean we find eye contact difficult?

Yup, do this all the time. I think it helps me work out the meaning of the words - I have the visual form of Aspergers so I have to try to work out what a word or phrase 'looks like' in a picture. Until I can do that, it just repeats in my brain.

I agree that there should be one dx of "Autism Spectrum Condition" with notes and action plans on functioning levels and co-existing problems (sensory issues, dyspraxia, ADHD, epilepsy, whatever else). My experience is that many people regard Asperger syndrome as "mild" and therefore needing nothing...

Interesting that Autism Speaks UK (separate but linked charity in England) is furious about the I am autism video and says that it warned Autism Speaks not to produce it as it was so insulting to a lot of autistic individuals.

I'm so often told by Autism Speaks supporters that if I can talk, that means that I have no problems. How they get this idea I have no clue. Yes, I can talk, but it Q means that I can get myself into one diplomatic nightmare after another, not that I have this amazing skill with words. I find it mas...

I hear that some of the parents were never told what sort of wording would be put over the pictures of their children, and are fairly shaken by this video.

Hmm, this is the organisation that pays some of its top people $500,000 or thereabouts and spends incredible sums on PR and marketing. And now they are saying that we destroy people's lives....what a way to frighten people into giving money to them, eh? Who would want to be in a relationship with so...
